Hello everyone,
I have a new pdoc and the bottem line he doenst want me on Benzo's, he said its like drinking "Gin" i disagreed with him and told him the many times it saved from a panic. He thinks antipsychotics, alot of the newer treatments, work. He does not like the cocktail im on with benzo's and wants to take me off slowly.
Any say of this? my old pdoc believed in antianxiety medications much. This one is the is the other "spectrum" from him. I take a sleeping medication, and says, no more of that. Its so hard looking for a psychiatrist because my other psychiatrist, well there was just some crap that got started. Its going to be hard with him.
He put me on Abilify. I've noticed some diffrence, the other mood stabizer i was on was causing SEVERE weight gain.
I'll be brave......

what are the benzos for? antipsychotics for anxiety is crap. I pretty much have to take an antipsychotic for bipolar and its still scary, what with TD and all...why bother if the prob is anxiety? Benzos are cheap, safe, and effective.
Anyway, I wish you luck with this dude...if it doesn't work out, is there anyone else you can go to?

I agree with med did you move and have to change pdoc's? Find a benzo friendly doc hence why I drive a full day to get to mine. Phillipa

I'm almost pleased to hear this isn't just a UK/NHS limited problem. My pdoc once said taking benzos was like drinking beer all day. He won't give me any more sleeping tablets either. You have my sympathy.
I don't agree with this fad of using antipsychotics in preference to benzos for anxiety. The risk/benefit ratio just doesn't balance IMO.

I'm still on my antianxiety medication, but its working. This doctor is "stick" no benzo's, he doenst, he consider's it like drinking "Gin" for anxiety. Comparared to my other pdoc who insisded that Klonopin and Xanax where perfect for anxiety disdoer, and especially panic disorder.
This doc think's abilify is going to do the magic trick and plus, i dont like it because he is so booked, i cannot see him again for 3 weeks.
My other pdoc was, there was alot of things that happened with that, and i wasnt conisdered "fired" from my pdoc, but it was because of something else.
Restoril is not considered at all for treatment anymore. He does not believe in older treatments for insomnia, the only thing he'll go up to is seroquel which i have been on 3 times. He said "well'l start over again"
His moral standard is "non-benzodiapine" treatment. I dont know what to say, either i just diractly make a life change, or i have to see another initial consination.
not trilled.....

It's interesting how doctors differ in their views on different medications.
Benzos and other sedatives/hypnotics are the easiest class of medication to get from my current primary psychiatrist. Many other drugs are very difficult to get from him, although he can change his mind eventually after a lot of time and persuasion. Several times my patience has been exhausted and I've taken the financial hit and risk of customs trouble from ordering on-line.

> Sky LineThere seems to be a ridulous trend among p-docs to believe newer is better. Benzos are nothing like drinking gin. Statement is so stupid I'd dump him right away. The p-docs are always pushing the latest and greatest ssris when they're probably the least effective ads out there.

Well, its going to be one smack down on the concrete when he, he better slowly take me off. I've heard with benzo's you will have sieuzes in reactions in cold turkey situations.
I hope he knows the emotional pain, but he'll probaly just think of an antipsychotic. Wait im aleady on one, Abilify.
If he zombies me out, me and him are really not going to like eachother. I've had my days with all being zonked out with antipsychotics. I hate them, only thing there good for is clearing up scattered thoughts that wont stop. Anything else...please dont mention.
