I have spent weeks trying to get the false positive resolved that turned up in my drug screen for the new job.
I've called the HR people at the company and today I called the labratory.
My doctor is writing a letter to the lab and the company about the xanax causing the false positive.
I cannot understand why I wasn't re-tested on the spot when the positive came up. I told the nurse that I was not taking that drug and her reply was "we'll have to send this off to another lab and will get back to you in 2 or 3 days." That was March 20th.
I'm thinking about calling a lawyer. That has to come off of my record. I wouldn't work for that company now, but the lab did cost me that job.
I am furious, doing a fast burn and frustrated as hell.

what did xanax show up as in the drug test? Were they checking for benzos?
That sounds really odd

Ill bet it showed up as GHB which is odd because places usually only give NIDA 5 tests. They could test your hair and really know how much they've screwed up.

I was nursing in hospitals on xanax and drug results were fine. Could they have mixed up the results some way? Labs are always mislabeling things. Love Phillipa

Phillipa, if you are a nurse, you understand that certain medicines can give false positives when you pee in a cup. This is what happened here and I am now moving on...I appreciate your kind concern. p.s. I saw the label go on the cup. The main lab cleared it.

I am so sorry. That is absolutely outrageous, and I'm very angry on your behalf.
As you say, that's not a job I'd want, but it's still outrageous that with all your supporting documentation they didn't clear that up.
And, as a shoe thumping social liberal with some very conservative views -- I find the entire concept of drug testing distasteful. One of the most conscientious and hard working individuals I ever worked with smoked pot a very regular basis each weekend -- while it's an illegal substance, I still don't think that should have interfered with his ability to get a job if it did not impair his ability to do that job. And, as someone who takes conventional psychostimulants, I really hate the idea of drug testing. (Almost as much as signing the oath of allegiance which so many school districts require...)
Good luck finding a more worthy job.

Thank you, Racer. I cleared it up myself on Thursday and informed the company of my opinion of their lack of professional ethics.I have two interviews on Tuesday in the same town.
About two years ago I applied for a job, south of here, and when I drove up (it was a school)I noticed that people seemed to be in "western" costumes....This was my second interview and the man offered me the job..as he started getting "clothes" out of a cabinet behind his desk, he handed me a sheet of paper to sign....It was a pledge that I would adhere to a certain denomination's religious beliefs. Then I realized that the employees weren't in "costume"....they dressed like "Howdy Dowdy" every day!!!!!!
I burst out laughing (I mean LOUD) and shook his hand and left his office. I sat in my truck and laughed for five minutes before I pulled away. He stood in his window and watched me the entire time......:-)
Not only do employers want you to look like the village idiot, you have to join their church????
Remember, I am a rodeo photographer and grew up on a ranch....never have I worn a cowboy hat, boots and a huge belt buckle and I've always excelled at my job......:-) I still think that it is the most "fun" job interview that I've ever had!!
I agree with you about some drug testing. I can't imagine how I would even GET there if I were using PCP.....Oh well, I'd save on gas...I'd just fly by flapping my arms...like a crow flies. That would also cut down on the traveling time.
p.s. I told the offenders in computer class yesterday and they all wanted to write out "character" statements for me and send them to the company!!!!!! We laughed and laughed about the ludicrousness of the positive.....
The test came back negative from the state lab. Never saw that one coming, did we? :-)
p.p.s. This may be one of the finer experiences of my life. I've sure had alot of laughs over it and worked myself up into some pretty good "hissy fits" about it.....It will definitely go into the book. :-) I think my favourite part is felons wanting to be character witnesses for me~~~(we also discussed UFOs yesterday...so that tells you how our discussions can go)
This is the end of the thread.
