I'm currently taking 10 mgs paxil and my sleep is horrible. Paxil's helping {somewhat} with the depression but I get racing thoughts when I increase the doseage. My doctor prescribed seroquel but I'm scared to death to take it because of side effects, particularly weight gain.
Anyone know of a med that can be added to paxil to help with sleep and racing thoughts. I've tried welbutrin which helped except for the sleep got worse.

That was my first ad and at the same dose. At the time my pdoc gave me xanax and lopressor 25mg for three weeks prior. To prepare my body for the ad he said. And boy was I dragging. Laid in a hammonk for three months then feel better? Are you on a benzo now? Love Phillipa

If your doctor gave you Seroquel, then you really should give it a go. It's risk of weight gain isn't as bad as stuff like Zyprexa. I took Seroquel for a few months and didn't notice any major problems with weight gain at all.

I had insomnia, bad sleep, and racing almost paranoid oversensitive stuff as side effects from Paxil. My doctor did not give me anything to help. He just said hang in there these side effects would go away. He was right. They did. At about the 3 month mark. Looking back I sure wish I could have had a little bit of Xanax or Lunesta. Seroquel is a bit too much big guns I think, at this point.
You want sleep? How about an elephant dart? That is what seroquel is to many people. If you didn't have racing thoughts before paxil, but you do now with it, they will likely pass gradually on their own. A mild temporary bandaid might be cool. Seroquel might be it, but I can think of milder safer choices. Best bet is to try it at your doctor's recommendation, see how it goes, and then followup with him.
All drugs have risks and benefits, including Xanax, Lunesta, Remeron, Nortriptyline, Amitriptyline, Trazodone. But given the choice between those or seroquel, I personally would opt for a puny dose of them first and save seroquel for last. But that's just me.

Try cyproheptadine (Periactin), or if that lasts too long, zolpidem (Ambien).

Why did you stop and how was it to stop? I took a small dose one night and I was a zombie the next day, does that wear off?
