PROSCAR - URGENT!!!!!

Posted by g_g_g_unit on March 26, 2008, at 20:26:14

okay i dont want to get into the ethical difficulties over what i've about to describe, i just need the hard facts. last night, i stayed at a friends house who was away. he usually carries blue sleeping pills + ritalin. because i couldnt get to sleep i took what i assumed was a sleeping pill and gave half to my girlfriend. i have now found out that it was in fact Proscar, a prostate drug for men. i realise this was incredibly stupid on my part and have already beat myself up enough. what i need to find out here is: my friend said that the drug can cause permanent reproductive damage in women. google searches however suggest that complications can only arise if the women is currenly pregnant. please clarify . .. . -

Hiya,

I took 1/4 of a 5mg tab every 4 out of 5 days when I started going bald. (I am male) I did that for years. As I recall the theory, it actually reverses hair loss to back where you were 6 months before, as the follicles take that long to die after the hair falls out.

When I stopped I expected the hair to start to fall out again but it hasn't. A bit thin on top but that's it. F*ck*d if I know - maybe it had a permanent effect, maybe my hair was never going to fall out past a certain amount anyway....?

If you google "Finasteride women" you'll see there's a LOT of talk about the drug being suggested to treat hair loss for women too.

So it appears to be not entirely unheard of for use with women. Multiply that by the huge # of hits in google & I'll bet there's plenty of women actually taking it out there. If it was causing them serious grief those stories would spread (like wildfire) & hence come up ranking higher in google.

Lots of references say not to take it when pregnant though (can a woman safely take ANYTHING while pregnant?? Man - I think that disclaimer comes as the default footer in MS Word for DrugCo...!) They say it may cause a male fetus' genitals to turn female (!). Sad considering how many men there are out there who are desperate for this.

So unless she's pregnant or planning on being so in the next month or so, I think she'll be OK. I think she'll live. :)

And I think I know the tablets you meant to take - Stilnox right? As I recall, they're about the same size and exactly the same color as the 5mg Proscar. You silly boy.....! :)

My mother told me that she never took even an asprin when she was pregnant with me. And man have I tried to make up for that ever since....!

Now stay out of other people's drug cupboards...!

Sounds like some Cheech & Chong video.... ;)

And if you ever swallow anything that you think is dangerous, make yourself vomit or go to a hospital & drink the charcoal brew. Posting to psychobabble under such circumstances can only be taken as well....sorry to say, but "a joke".

Sorry again for the insult.

P.S. The Ajax Lady.... that was the scene... :)

This is the end of the thread.
