Lyrica And Weight Gain??

Posted by qbsbrown on March 19, 2008, at 22:13:09

Although my hunger seems to be normal, I seem to be gaining weight on Lyrica daily!! My face is puffier, and I seem to be retaining everything, fluid or something.

I notice that it's listed in under 10 percent, but are there others out there (you) that have experienced otherwise?

Lyrica is notorious for weight gain and usually in the form of edema ... hence the puffy face. I was on neurontin (related to Lyrica) and I had edema so bad that I had to go into the hospital.

Maxime, does it usually correlate to a certain dose, the puffy face stuff?

I don't know. I was on a low dose of Neurontin ... Hopefully some Lyrica users will post.

The ones I know didn't experience this as a side effect. One takes l00mg for anxiety other 600mg for depression . Sorry it's not from experience of my own.The people I know like it. Phillipa

Did some research. The edema seems to be more of a problem at any dose above 600mg. How much are you taking?

You're right. I was at 900, attempting to go to 1200. I had gained 5 lbs in 2 days on 1200, and my face got really puffy.
I think that 600 will still reap the positive mood for me, and I can add depakote for more of the racing thoughts issues. Unfortunately i sleep horrible on both meds.

Regards,

Brian

Is there something that works just as well as Depakote for you? Because Depakote is a real weight gainer. Although it seems like you have been on it before, so maybe it doesn't cause you to gain weight.

Good luck!

Seems like most of the weight gain is edema or water weight. Wouldn't some type of herbal diuretic or even lasix get rid of the extra water.Maybe they should do do thyroid tests to make sure that is not being impacted. Wish docs were more creative and could figure out stratagies to deal with sides.
