Tianeptine/Stablon Side Effects: Brain Fog +10!

Posted by Neener on March 15, 2008, at 23:10:08

Hey all, first time poster. I have been on it for several months. I'd be interested to see how people are faring on it.

Good thing is that it really has kept my OCD tendencies, paranoia, racing thoughts and anxiety at bay. I'm BI Polar II

Bad thing is my hair is falling out. I mean, I can see my scalp and I'm a woman. Also is I am very emotional and irritable. I find it hard not to be short with people and my personal energy is "harder", if that makes sense. I'm also very unfocused. Very, very foggy, tired and achey. I can't remember names and lose track of what I'm talking about mid sentence. I'm a teacher, so that is not flying well. I had to edit this post 4 times, in fact.

The worst is that I am a spiritual person and I am Reiki practitioner as well and I have found my sessions for others are not as powerful. I feel disconnected to what I call divine energy. This is starting to become my deal breaker as it is getting worse and not better. The hair loss and the bitchiness I can deal with if I have to, the former I won't.

I have gone off of it for a day or two and found the irritability leaving, felt more "connected" but the racing thoughts and all that other fun stuff came back.

Insights?

Hello Neener

I took it for a couple of years and it was good at first.

It made me a lot more social and I could do stuff.

Eventually I stopped because I felt kinda freaked out. I'd start to feel spooky and strange and then I'd get frightened.

The unfocussedness you mention I can empathise with. Other people have described this as feeling without motivation.

I didn't get the brain fog you mention, at least not much.

I had no difficulty in stopping, though I stopped using it over time.

Hope this is of some use

Hi first time poster!
Always puzzling how one med can affect people very individually! I became very anxious whilst on Tianeptine, may be this is the same thing you are calling 'emotional'??? Can't relate to the hair loss 'cause I was only on Tianep for 6 weeks...

Good luck!
Maria

Hi!
Did either of you experience muscle aching?

I took a look around the board here and saw that this kind of drug can interfere with the mitochondria and CoQ10?

I tapered off yesterday to see if the brain fog left and I'm aching so badly it's a bit frightening. Could it be withdrawal? I have only been doing 12.5 a day. 1 pill split in two. I'm wondering if I should up the dosage and perhaps that may bring relief to the fog. AD's can work so strangely that way, an increas3ed dose can relieve the side effects. But I'm leery of doing so if it increases the problem. I can barely remember my own name. Not good when I'm a teacher. And the blunting of my spiritual connection is not cool either.

Another good thing is that it has helped me to lose weight. I don't crave like I used to. I know this drug has been prescribed to addicts. Food has been my drug of choice, so this makes sense.

Thanks to both of you for your comments and best of luck to you too!

Hi,
thought I'd chip in with my two-pence worth.
Muscle aches for a few days is common on tianeptine withdrawal, as is a notable downturn in mood. But it's only for a short while, nothing compared to Venlafaxine, Paroxetine, etc. I used to take it continuously, but stopped. Now I only use it occasionally as a very mild stress buster, Never heard of hair loss with this one. With most of these chemicals I also note a blunting of spiritual connectivity ( over time) If you stop these drugs you might loose in one department and gain in another. That's the good news!

Thanks for posting to me. I wish I could find a drug that I can be myself, but yet productive not depressed, motivated and calm. Seems I have to choose between the two. :-/
