Trivastal LA, what dose? for dep? and how long?

Posted by AdamCanada on February 8, 2008, at 2:09:45

how long usually until it works? and how much should i take? is LA the same brand as ''retard''. Because I see two names mentioned on the board at times?

I take paxil 9.75mg. clonazepam, 200mg gabapentin, daily... along with ritalin 0.5 a few times a day (trying to not take too much as it may interfer with Trivastal...

what is the usual dose of trivastal LA for Severe depression? I dont have sadness or emotional depression. I have low drive, low motivation, low interest, low sex drive...

I have been taking 25mg and then 50mg on the 2nd day...

dont think i am seeing any side effects or results yet. maybe feeling more emotional i dont know. really hard to tell. although last morning I was feeling motivated towards photography among other things... and music sounded da-- good. but of course after sleep and after getting up I am back to feeling lousy with no motivation for life.
plus very anti-social.

Please respond or share any experiences as i am losing my darn social life that for the first time in several years I have actually had. I have been in such a downward spiral since january and i have no clue what even caused it.

Adam seems a lot of us have been wonder what's causing so many people to feel like they are going downhill. And also how do you split a paxil to get 9.75mg? Phillipa

Trivastal Retard and LA are not the same. LA has a secondary half-life of around 6 hours (so 50mg spread out over that time), while Trivastal Retard has a 21 hour half life and stable blood levels over 24 hours.

3x 50mg LA daily would be similar to 150mg Trivastal Retard 1x daily.

It sounds as if you got a benefit and then suffered a rebound afterwards, due to the shorter half-life of LA.

The two people here in recent weeks who tried Trivastal got very good results and have since disappeared for pbabble. People who are feeling good generally do not hang out. So one can assume all is well with them and Trivastal. I remember the general scenario of hints of something good as early as day 2 but not a real good kickin until about a week. I think the doses in those cases were in the 100mg to 150mg range?

As has already been stated, LA and Retard have different half lives. The LA will need 2 or 3 doses in a day. The Retard only one. Regardless that they are the same med, I have seen people here over the years that benefited from one version of a med but not the other. For example, Wellbutrin sustained versus Wellbutrin extended release, or regular Xanax versus extended release Xanax, or Effexor versus Effexor extended release. The way the drugs are supposed to be absorbed is all based on a healthy normal average intestinal tract, which I think is a stretch to assume we all have. I saw at another forum someone did well with the Retard but not the LA, and someone else it was just the opposite. Go figure.

Anyway, just stuff to ponder. As far as your current trial is concerned, I think the once daily dose is wearing off too soon, the dose might not be high enough, and it is still a little too early in the trial.

Yes, I am certain we're all much more different in responding to extended release meds than the mfgrs would like to believe. I used to take a 12-hr sustained release antihistamine; it actually lasted 24-48 hrs for me, but the downside was I was only getting 1/2 to 1/4 the protection at any one time that I got from taking the short-acting version. Thank heaven, that particular A/H is now back in an adult-strength liquid, so I can take what I need when I need it.

I deplore the tendency of A/D manufacturers to drop the short-acting preparation when they start marketing the lastest LA, XR or SR version. I know there's sometimes a legitimate side-effect concern (seizures being the most serious), but talking to my pharmacist, he sees it mainly as a marketing ploy for the original drug company to recoup market share afer the initial product has gone generic. I am very sensitive to Wellbutrin and the standard XR or SR strengths are simply too much for me -- and you're not supposed to split them!! (I did anyway, since the plain Wb was not available even as a generic).

I've ordrered a small amount of Trivastal from an overseas source to try, but I'm very reluctant to become dependent on it, as I had the desparate experience once of having my supply of Tianeptine (which had always been 100% reliable) simply never arrive one month. And Customs/Health Canada seem to be cracking down lately - I got a polite note with one shipment of Adrafinil recently advising me that they were passing it as <= 90 days personal supply, and one note saying that a shipment of another med had been refused and returned to sender; but I have had many more shipments in the past 2 years just disappear into limbo. And when I talked to a Health Canada rep., she virtually admitted that they often make quite arbitrary decisions on whether to pass a particular item or not, and that although policy is to notify people when a shipment is seized or returned to sender, quite often they don't bother.

> I started trivastal retard o few months ago
tried to increase but didn't do well
very volatile. it also causes some swelling of the tongue
and i ordered trivastal LA by mistake this time

my complaining aside, i take trivastal at night with vitamins, l-tryptophan and something is working to give a bit of a sense of future and making early rising possible more often
better dreams
feeling more sensual(too bad i don't have a partner)
