Hi
So I have been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. Believe it or not, it is the first time I have received this diagnosis. But it does fit. I suspected I had it but I ask my psychiatrist and he said I didn't. I don't think I have an extreme case of BPD, but I do meet the DSM criteria.
ANYHOW, the pscyhiatrist wanted me to try lithium or depakote for my impulsiveness. I have been on both meds before and depakote gave me a rash and lithium made me throw up no matter which dosage I was on.
Are there any other meds that might help?
I am going to seek therapy but it will take about a month before I find someone suitable who I can afford.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Well from what I've read here resperidol works and zyprexa. Now I know about the weight gain but you might only need an occasional dose. Phillipa

Respiridol gives me pitting edema. Zyprexa is not an option.
I wonder if there is something that would work. The tripleptal helped me my anger, but I was taken off that med.

mmm..............i know this is said over and over but stimulants are used for some impusliveness, but they include a bad mood with it sometimes.
How is Adderall? right now?
benzo's from my experience cause more impusiveness, because you dont care what your doing. I never take anything sedating before i shop, if i do credit card its going to be in my mouth.
Im sorry you have to go through this.

I am no longer on Adderall. It was discontinued when I was in the hospital. Why do you think stimulants help with impulsiveness?

Because it can interfere with other meds.

I tried lamictal and it made me very depressed. I guess it happens sometimes. Thanks for the suggestion though.
