I haven't used it but don't recall reading of weight gain being a factor. Is it working well for you? Still very interested in it. Thanks Phillipa

Hi
There a poster here who had an increased appetite with EMSAM. However it went away after a few weeks. Everyone is different. Give the med a go!

1000% false for me. Lost about 20 lbs effortlessly in 3 months. Eat pretty sensibly, walk a little and started EMSAM. It revs up slow metabolism. I'm hypothyroid, take synthroid, bio identical hormones recently so my dr. says it keeps weight off.
As Robert told me last Fall, try it, if it works you will love it. If you don't like, take patch off. that's the beauty no withdrawal as far as I know.

All EMSAM users. Please try and check all threads, especially about how Bristol may take off market because rumors are it might not be as profit making as they want. Look at grn mtn and me. We need your help! We have flowered as well. We don't want to lose this. Cannot be compounded into patch form as far as we have heard. keep in touch.
Thanks

Won't feel the beginning of effects if it is going to work for you sometimes until week 15. I did 4 weeks @ 6mg and nothing. Then 3 days @ 9mg. Wham! Way too much. Off for a week completely. Then 1/2 patch for 12 hours a day. But I'm super sensitive with this stuff. But with Wellbutrin @ 450mg and 30mg Dexedrine I was good until 4 months later I had 11 seizures in 5 hours. Then none of SSRI's worked. 2005 tried either 90 or 120mg of Cymbalta and another seizure. This is much safer. If you don't have luck with something else, you may reconsider. It was my last resort.
Thank God, it worked and I am tolerating thus far very well. good Luck to you.

I'm on 9 mg patch about 16 hrs a day and doing fantastic aside from insomnia issues. Been on it7 months. Seems not to have any effect on weight for me. No change from before starting it. Weight is not a big issue with me. I've been about 10 pounds overweight for years. I have to be careful about foods laying around the house and stuffing them in my face mindlessly.

yes get the samples in case there is ever a time you decide to try. I was reaaly scared at first. Started and stopped in 3 days which is way too soon for any side effects. But I'm so scared of something causing seziures when I feel too good or as I am know learning, NORMAL!

I'd be really scared too if I'd had seizures the pdoc just thinks it's too stimulating for me as my anxiety is so high. To the point of being agoraphobic can go out but not alone. Phillipa

You and your pdoc know best. But I started EMSAM with the worst anxiety of my life. Couldn't move, shaking, jerking, SSRI withdrawal so I use EMSAM with Xanax. My pdoc syas it works well with valium or klonopin for more severe anxiety. but after 9 weeks my anxiety disappeared.

I have been on Emsam since Nov. The first two weeks were not good, had to be off the other anti-depressants for two weeks, it was a rough ride.. at week 2 he bumped me up from 6 to 12 with when I wasn't having any relief. Right when it felt it might be working, I had to go off again since I was having surgery, so I was off of it for 4 weeks again.. I started it again the second week of Dec., and felt it kick in really quickly. I quickly weaned off geodon and lacmitcal. I moved up to 12mg and felt like I was crawling out of my skin so I started cutting the patches. They seem to be working, I only take sequeol at night to sleep and then I take armour twice a day and premarin once a day. I don't feel depressed really much.. I am kind of not sure what I feel. I had a hysterectomy the beginning of Nov because of severe pms. So I just feel even I guess. I have been eating a lot of junk so I think I might still have some depression problems but I think if I exercised it would help but just can't see to get the motivation part going. It might be because of the weather too, winter time and all, stuck inside all the time.
I am new here, have been reading for some time and have gotten a lot of good information from here. I just thought I would post in hopes that I might be able to help someone else.

Thanks so much for sharing. I now face having to come off EMSAM for 17 days due to upcoming surgery. Scared I will lose the huge stride forward I have made since November. As you can see from my EMSAM posts, it is a miracle for me. Lamictal made me so sick, lost 20 lbs in 8 weeks because I gagged at anything. Maybe it is holding you back a bit from full EMSAM positive push forward. I was cemented stuck for last couple of years, couldn't open mail, had utilities turned off then on, couldn't unpack after move for 2 years etc. In just 5-6 weeks I'm full steam ahead, like I was 9 years ago.
Keep trying and yes, walking helps immensely. I forced myself for the first 8 weeks, now I wish I could do more, it works, I promise as to the walking, but EMSAM is worth good fair trial.
This is the end of the thread.
