Hi,All APs can cause or worsen depression, especially in people with such tendencies. Anxiety and panic attacks are also part of the same territory.
May I ask how much seroquel you are taking and for what reason? Have you discussed the problem with your pdoc? You may be advised to change the dosage or to add another med.Take care,
Nellie.

Strange as I personally haven't heard of this but we are all different your pdoc will be the best to judge why and change your dose or meds. Phillipa

I'm so sorry. Damn. It hurts.
I don't know. Some pdoc might say it is a progression of the underlying disease and needs higher doses and more add on meds. Another pdoc might say seroquel is doing something wrong over the long term and needs to be changed.
Longterm antipsychotic use has a history of inducing problems that never existed before, such as parkinsonism stuff, akathisia, movement disorders, hormonal and metabolic changes.
I hope you can see your doctor real soon and I hope he has some real good direction for you. Hey, if you get this tingly stuff shortly after a dose, there's not much doubt where it is coming from.
Just so you know you are not alone, zyprexa did the same thing to me. It took 6 years to do it though. But when it started, there was no stopping it. Things like xanax, klonopin, depakote, higher dose zyprexa, seroquel...they all put a dent in it for a few days and then it was back with a vengeance. The only way out of the nightmare was to wean off zyprexa. That worked. My gut feeling is that the noradrenergic part of the zyprexa, or seroquel in your case, is the underlying culprit.

I would say akathisia in Seroquel is extremely rare, but conceivable.A racing pulse is possible when you first take it but thats usually transient and has to do with the alpha-adrenergic antagonism at a1 and a2. Its conceivable that activates NE in you.
Talk to your doctor about it, it could be balanced with clonidine/guanfacine (a2 agonists) but that has to be watched. They are high blood pressure agents that are used in psychiatry.

Sounds like classic akathisia -- like restless leg, but over your whole body. I know that particular sensation only too well and by me it's one of the worst in the world, right up with severe chronic pain. And I also get burning or tingling skin and often extreme anxiety / agitiation.Akathisia literally means "can't stay in a chair". I have experienced this nasty side-effect with a number of meds, and, yes, I think maybe Seroquel was one, although it's a couple of years since I took it regularly.
It can also start after you've been taking a med for while -- I was fine on Trazadone for sleep for a year or three, then started getting akathisia and had to stop it.
Requip (ropinirole) may help a lot -- it's now officially prescribed for restless leg syndrome, which this seems to be a big brother to. I couldn't take Remeron when I first tried it -- terrible akathisia. With .75 mg Requip along with the Remeron I'm fine; I now take a total of 1.5 mg/day Requip as it is a general AD enhancer as well, and my pharmacist tells me there's lots of room to increase the dose if needed. I think the mfgr. suggests starting at .75 mg for "restless leg" and incrementing until the problem stops -- your Dr will have a dose table.
Good luck -
Tony

Hi bleuberry
Think you may be right about prob. with seroquel. Pdoc said no way was it the med but g.p. said to give procyclidine a go. It seems to be working slowly last night was nowhere near as bad as the week before so maybe they just need to build up a bit. I knew it was the seroquel because as you said it started to happen after a nite dose what I don't understand is why now after being on it for 11 mths. Nice to know it has happened to someone else who had also been on the med that caused it for a long time.
Thanks for your advice it was much appreciated now I know I am not mad.
This is the end of the thread.
