Serzone to Lexapro, NEED HELP GUYS !!!!!!!!

Posted by garyengelm on January 20, 2008, at 17:22:52

I started on Lexapro 3 weeks ago. I could only tolerate 1.25mg qd at first, then starting week 3, I went to 2.5mg and have been fine. I feel it working for my depression big time even at this low dose.

All along, I've been weaning my Serzone down from 400mg to 250mg, which is where I am now.

I had a serum Serotonin and Norepinephrine level drawn a few months ago. The Serotonin was 35 ref. range= 0-300, and the Norepi was 419, ref range=0-400. I know there is no direct correlation to CSF levels, but I would think it would indicate if one were low or high it would have some correlation.

Despite that, here is what is going on. Now that the Lexapro is really kicking in, I find that an hour or so after I take the Serzone, my anxiety kicks in. I'm thinking the Norepi reuptake may be causing this problem. Last night I took the Serzone at 6pm, but also took my low dose Risperdal, and low dose Depakote, and 1mg klonopin. I was fine, went to bed, slept well, got up this am around 9:30am, No anxiety, no depression. I didn't even feel like I needed the Serzone, but took it 125mg so I don't have w/d while tapering down. I took it at about 11am, which would be 17 hours since last dose. An hour later, the anxiety came on.

Do you think the reuptake of the norepinephrine could be causing this? Do you think I can just stop taking the Serzone, now that the Lexapro had been on board for 3 weeks. I've never heard of "Norepinephrine Syndrome", but it sure seems like a cause and effect to me.

Thanks in advance as always....

It is all so complicated I don't think there is any way to explain it. Your theories are probably better than any since you know yourself better than anyone.

You might want to try ditching the serzone outright at this point and see how far you can get. You might be surprised and find you are closer to your goal than you think.

Hi Gary,

For me there is definitely such a thing as norepinephrine sydrome. It has happened to me with at least 2-3 drugs. Geodon was great (before it finally pooped out)until I reached a dosage level where the norepinephrine reuptake effect got to be too much. I felt like I was going to jump out of my skin.

Nortriptyline makes me much more anxious/nervous/scared/jittery also.

But I am confused by something. Were you on Serzone for depression or anxiety or both? And it must have quit working? That's why you switched to Lexapro?

Marsha
