Deplin Combined Experiences?

Posted by Phillipa on January 11, 2008, at 11:41:11

Well my pdoc prescribed 7.5mg of Deplin yesterday didn't seem to know much about it package sample pill says med food or something similar. It's special order at pharmacy and she had no info to give me as to time of day to take or any side effects. Any info? Went to the site and time of day is not listed. Assuming it's like a vitamin but a medicine.? She didn't have any written material either. Thanks for any info you're gotten from your docss she said" supposed to augment an ad". Phillipa

phillipa.

my understanding is that it is a supplement.. Not really a med but they are marketing it as a med..
It is like folic acid but they say that folic acid has to go through a three step process beofere it can cross the blood brain barrier where as Dephlin can be absorbed as it is. So,, maybe it is just folic acid that they have tweaked??

L-methylfolate, (deplin) crosses the blood brain barrier and aids in the synthesis of new neurotransmitters (brain chemicals) associated with mood.

i got this from the deplin website
http://www.deplin.com/.... I think the website will answer your questions. It is supposed to work in one to two weeks but can take up to four.. now that doesn't make sense to me.. If it can cross immediately than why does it take up to 4 weeks to work.??I honestly haven't noticed any difference with it.. I will ask my doc if I can stop since my insurance won't pay for it.

let me know how it works for you. it has been great for some people.. on alternative they have good luck phillipa and thanks again

Star is it on alternative too? There is a coupon to run off at the deplin.com wesite it saved me one third of the price. I will get a card in the mail for future purchases. I find it a very confusing med to me . SLS has a very good understanding of it and likes it a bunch. Phillipa

Phillipa,,

yes,, i found it on alternative..You will have to look there.. People there talked about taking a form of it that is not available anymore now since they have classified it as a med.

phillipa..

the fda doesn't classify Deplin as a supplement or a drug.. So it a matter of opion here.. It is classified as amedical food.

I was shocked that my Pdoc has never heard of Deplin...He just kind of belittled it when i tried to tell him about it, he insisted that it was just a supplement you can get at any health food store. He's very intelligent, but kind of pompus, he really wasn't interested in hearing about it...kind of pisses me off because i would like to try it.

You could try what I did. Print out these articles, give them to him to read and study, then see what he says. My doctor was also clueless, but after reading this he let me try it. I've only been on it 4 days so it's too early to tell.

Good luck.
