I didn't do very well on Effexor, and just wondered if anyone else had a less than stellar experience with Effexor but went on to try Cymbalta and do well on it?
Also, does Cymbalta cause apathy like so many SSRIs and sometimes Effexor? What about anxiety - does it help or does it increase it?
I would really appreciate hearing people's experiences with Cymbalta, whether or not you had previously tried Effexor.
Thanks a bunch!

I have been on both.. Effexor worked for me for quite a while.. had a couple of dosage increases along the way but was on it for a couple of years maybe.. It pooped out. I have been on cymbalta for about a year now. It took away the really depressed thoughts of suicide but it does me feel emotionally numb in a way..I don't have motivation or anythng but I don't know when i last did have any. It does work for me so I put up with the numbness.. It's not total numbness and it has gotten better but I feel "dulled".
I take it with provigil and now buspar. Alone it wasn't doing enough but was keeping suicide thoughts away. I did get nervous on and off from it.. i didn't know if I was going to be "wired" or tired when i took it. But I react strangely to meds sometimes so you willhave to try it out for yourself..Worth a try anyway

Yes, I switched from Effexor to Cymbalta when I just became so flat. The biggest change I noticed is that I wasn't so flaky anymore, and I began to care about things again--like deadlines, which I just didn't care about on Effexor. I didn't care about much of anything while on Effexor, but as I've said before, maybe that's the point. Maybe at the time I needed to dull my emotions so much so that I could work on them in therapy w/o them overwhelming me.
I'm much happier on Cymbalta, only 60 mg and I was up to 225 on Effexor. In the last months, my pdoc has added Lyrica and that has made a huge difference all around. But I still am so glad I made the switch to Cymbalta. Some people really don't like it, though.
