Ritalin Dosage

Posted by qbsbrown on December 8, 2007, at 16:29:46

Everywhere i look, it says that 60mgs is the max dose. I don't feel any benefit unless I get to 90 or above.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I wonder if I add Provigil, that I might not need as much

What are you trying to get out of it?

Well, from personal experience, I took provigil and what it did basically was just keep me alert. My depression did get worse in the evenings though. I don't know if it will help to keep you still since it's a stimulant. I have heard that Aderall and concerta are better and more efficient drugs as far as ADD goes.

Give 'em a try and good luck.

I'm assuming you are talking about the sustained-release form?
Ritalin can increase the availability of dopamine already in your synapses but maybe you have a much lower than average amount to start with. Perhaps supplementing with L-Dopa (I use mucuna pruriens, DopaBean brand) could help. Check out what wikipedia has to say on these.

Do some research on dopamine (and serotonin), you'll learn a lot about your brain...

Hi,

I tried Provigil - it was a total dud for me. My pdoc said she tried it, and it was a dud for her too. I too have to take high doses of either Ritalin or Adderall. I am a fast metabolizer with all meds, and that's why I take 30 (yes, 30) mg of Zyprexa each night in order to stay stable (I have a really nasty case of Bipolar I with psychotic features, and a side order of ADD). My doctor lets me take 120 mg of Ritalin, or 90 mg of Adderall XR. I switch between them when one or the other starts to poop out. Without my stimulants, I can't sit still or think rationally and seriously about my work or much anything else. I'd be fired within 2 weeks from my senior professional position without my drugs - and I have to take a very big cocktail to stay "normal" and function like other people. I've tried taking a stimulant med vacation to get over the tolerance problem, and I was a wreck from doing that, but you might try it, if your need for stimulants is not a major problem, and you just need to get past the tolerance or poop-out factor.

Merry Christmas!
K

Wow! Somebody also on a high dose of Zyprexa. Nice to meet you. I tried Seroquel, but didn't like it as it didn't seem as effective for me as Zyprexa. I wish you the best giving it a try. Yes, Zyprexa does cause weight gain, but in my experience, it only lasts a couple of years, and then if you are careful, you can get it to come off again. I used Nutrisystem to do it - the food was quite tasty -- to me at least, and I dropped weight quickly; 10 lbs in the first week, but it slowed to 2 or 3 after that. Oh well, I don't mean to digress.
