I've been reading that they both lower cortisol levels. Does anyone have any information on how much of an impact each has on this? Are they roughly equal in this way or does trimipramine have a much bigger effect on curtailing cortisol production?

I think they're probably very similar in this effect. Trimipramine may have more effect in this regard due to its lack of 5-ht reuptake. I think it has to do with 5-ht2 system antagonism. Elavil is likely similar.
