Hello all, new to this forum....Will state my experience briefly, plus ask Q's to you out there who can give me some insight. I appreciate the time anyone will spare to give me their thoughts.
Was diagnosed at 18 with major depressive disorder and am now 25, battling back and forth. Have been on celexa, prozac, zoloft, wellbutrin, effexor, cymbalta, lamictal. Currently on 225mg Effexor, 125mg Wellbutrin, 200mg lamictal. Am doing 'ok' at the moment, but as we all know, our misery is just around the corner waiting to bring us down. Just wanted some insight to those who can give some answers.
1. Effexor did the best for me, until it 'pooped out', then switched to cymbalta and it worked for a little till it did the same. Now I am cycling back and forth once one 'dies out'. Has anyone else tried this approach?
2. My pdoc recently wanted me to switch from wellbutrin to remeron. Took one dose and slept till 2pm the following day till my roomate woke me up, and felt dizzy the next day. Stopped taking it immediatly. Should I expect those symptoms to dissipate if i give it more time?
3. Sexual side effects are giving me a hard time to cope with. No desire, and very difficult to orgasm. What is recommended to use to counteract those side effects? I am starting to feel like I'm A-sexual!
4. Deplin; should I give it a try, or will I be wasting my time?
5. What is current research saying regarding, I think its called, 'venlofaxan'? I read some promising literature, and was wondering when it will be released by Novartis and if its giving the results that are hoped for by so many.
Once again, I thank you to those who read this and offer me your thoughts. I am with all of you who have dealt with this disease that can literally take your life. If not for the plethora of drugs out there that give us such rocky results, I may very well not be alive today.

Has anyone else tried this approach?Hi, I'll just throw in my weigh from left field:) I was diagnosed with OCD & other anxiety at ~15, and battled through some tormentuous years, interspersed with handsome vegetative breaks when I was on benzo's and antipsychot. Eventually I deemed myself a lost cause and managed to convince a couple doctors I was schizoaffective.
I just go through that to say that if medicine can do what it's done for me, and the way I was......
The turning point was finding a deeply sympathetic psychiatrist and the right medication.. memantine. Mematine has been *theorized in at least one way, to have the potential to reduce tolerance to AD's, and stimulants. It has been nothing short of a miracle drug for me.
Previously, Dexedrine would poop out after a few days, and I was vegetative, and somehow irritable. Now, with memantine.. 30mg/day I the dexedrine combined with caffiene and other perscriptions has my mind really quite sharp, I can study for 12 hours a day, for two months now, with no sign of tolerance..
I don't know if my experience is at all relevant to yours, but I just wanted to say that there is tremendous hope, I've found a doctor, christian, who insists that depression is not a moral flaw. He has emboldened me vigourously pursue a chemical solution for what a thought was a weakness in character.
my current medications are
300mg modafinil
30mg memantine
40-60mg dexedrine
500 - 600mg caffeine (I know as I said only a vegetable could tolerate all this:~P
30mg prozac
and 1mg clonazepamthere is tremendous hope

i know how you feel.. i hae been on almost of of the Ad's.. they either don't work or they poop out. I am on Cymbalta right now. Stopped suicidal thoughts but i am still depressed and flat. I also tried remeron.. with the results you had.. slept for 23 hours.. felt groggy and kind of high.. takes along time to wear off.. People told me that if you give it time the side effects will go away but I couldn't put up with it.
I dont have sexual side effects with cymbalta.. i don't remember about effexor. I was on that for quite a while till it pooped out. maybe going back and forth is a good idea.
I am not sure about deplin.. i have a scrpt i haven't filled yet.. i suppose it is worth a try. Search this site for it and you will find what some people think of it..
I tried to find out about the new drug but it is spelled some other way.. Couldn't google it.Good luck with your meds.. I know how discouragin it can get.

Hi, Dapper - welcome (and nice name!)
I've been on Cymbalta and Effexor and both eventually pooped out on me. I switched to Remeron this summer and at the low starting dose, it's extremely sedating. Once I got up to the therapeutic dosage (30mg for me), I woke up and felt much better.
If you're able to tolerate the sedation until you can get up to the therapeutic dosage on this medication, I'd say it's worth a try. It's very well known for sedation, as I said, at the lower doses.
It's been a great AD for me, though. No horrible side effects as I'd had on Cymbalta and Effexor.
Good luck and I hope you're feeling better.
