Nardil Day 13 - feel DREADFUL

Posted by Justherself54 on November 13, 2007, at 10:50:30

Day 13 at 45 mg..anxiety extremely high..feel like my eyes are going to pop out of my head..feeling like I'm going to cry at any given moment..unmotivated, nauseated, don't want to leave the house..can barely keep a thought in my head..

Should I keep on with this trial of Nardil or throw in the towel?

I thought nardil was good for anxiety? Maybe a nardil user will pop in for you sake and give you a really good answer. So sorry you are feeling so bad. Wish I could help. Phillipa

Is it an option to go back to 30mg?

Nardil is notorious for having many side effects in the first six weeks. The good news is the most of them, if not all, usually disappear over time.

I am on Nardil right now for anxiety. The idea of taking Nardil can cause anxiety for many ppl. You should consider adding a benzo such as Klonopin or Xanax.

How are you sleeping?

I was on Parnate for a short time..I have to say it worked quickly and was great for motivation and focus..but I developed a weird chill from it that was too much to handle, so I think I'm OK with the fear of MAOI's..haven't experienced any "chills" from Nardil but I certainly haven't felt anything close to positive from it at this point..having said that I spoke to my pdoc this afternoon..I'm going to continue taking Nardil for another week, hopefully longer as long as the anxiety and depression don't worsen..I don't want to quit before I've given it a fair trial..

I take Clonazapam at bed along with other sleep meds..took an additional dose this afternoon..
I'm sleeping as well as I did before Nardil, which isn't great..but no worse than before..

I'm hoping it will "kick in" soon, and this will all be worth it..

Sounds like a lot more than anxiety to me. Especially the crying part, the unmotivated part, and stuff like that...that is what you call worsened depression.

Personally I would drop the dosage down. From that point on I would follow my instincts. I have given fair trials to meds that made me feel as bad as you feel, hoping they would kick in, and they never did. On the contrary, meds that were either neutral or had initial good effects ended up being winners. Side effects like anxiety or insomnia were not a judge. Those are common. But worsened depression, that is a different story. That to me is definitive of a drug being absolutely the wrong one.

What a difference a day made!

I can't believe the difference one day made..I'm glad I spoke with my pdoc and decided to keep going with Nardil..

I'm not saying I feel 100% better..but considering yesterday I was an anxious depressed mess I feel pretty amazing today..

I'm starting to finish some old projects around the house, my energy level is way up..I even spent most of the afternoon doing odds and ends in town and felt quite relaxed instead of wanting to get home..still some problem with focus and concentration, but now it's manifesting itself in wanting to get started doing things and I find myself "flitting" from one thing to another..

I'm kinda in shock from the difference..trying not to get my hopes up too high..but wow!

Hi,
When I first started Nardil in 1996 it took about five or six weeks for the med to kick in. When it did it was like none of the other forty plus combination of medications I have ever taken for depression and social anxiety. It was almost like getting struck by lightning. One day I was totally hopeless and the next day all of the answers were very clear.

I did have a touch of hypomania, which honestly felt good after being depressed for so long. You have to be careful with this though; you can end up spending too much, gambling to much, and just taking to many chances. The hypomania will generally go away spontaneously. I have seen many people on the board interpret this as poop out. The hypomania is a side effect and not the true antidepressant effect of the medication. If you think the med is pooping out just try to remember what it felt like with the major depression. There are options if the antidepressant effect truly does go away. Increase the dosage: 1mg/kg of body weght is the accepted effective dose. Augment with lithium, benzos, atypical antipsychotics, bupropion(though officially contraindicated)among others.
Be Well,
Jedi
