I have been trying Seroquel at night 50mg for the past week or so. While it really helps with sleep, I feel very flat and apathetic during the day. I feel like the walking dead - no personality.
It is also good for anxiety, but at what cost?!
I'm thinking of trying Abilify yet again.

First of, what are you taking Seroquel for? A mood stabilizer? Or to help with sleep?
What you are describing is extremely common, especially for those taking Seroquel alone. Also, it seems, the less Seroquel you take, the more sedated you feel.
You just have to come to the point of deciding is it worth the tradeoff? Is the Seroquel taking care of what is was prescribed for? If so, then it would be worth the drowsiness. By the way, to compensate for that, simply drink something with caffeine in the morning.
Wish you well, Michael

> Wish you well, MichaelI am BPII. I have a hard time with SSRIs - make me a little manic and can't take the constant need to pee! Seroquel has been good for sleep and anxiety. I don't do well with traditional mood stabilizers like Depakote - they make me depressed.
I like the Seroquel - I just need a little personality infusion. Maybe more caffine. But a little serotonin would be great.

I can't take any more than 25 mg at bed..it sure helps me with my sleep issues..could you reduce it to 25 mg and see if you feel better the next day? Might be worth a try..still may help with sleep but not be too sedated in the daytime.

Sheila:
Are you taking another other meds with the Seroquel?
Thats interesting that you were prescribed this for BP2, because it helped me a while back taking it alone (see post below) and I think I may have BP2.
By the way, how did your doctor reach a diagnosis of BP2? If you could shed some light on your situation, I'd love to hear it. Thanks, Michael

Its hard to tease out whether its blunting, an effect people feel on nearly all neuroleptics, which tends to flatten affect, or whether its the pure sedation which some people can't take, or both.

I guess my doc came to the conclusion of BPII because I tend to be more depressed, but have experienced episodes of being hypomanic after SSRI or SNRI use or steriod use.
Not sure if I should try Abilify again. I'm going to think about it. I may talk to my doc and see what they suggest. If I can get good sleep it really makes a huge difference in my life.

Abilify would be the solution to the flat effect, geodon may help a little.
