Alternatives/combo Remeron (Elavil)

Posted by X-ray on November 6, 2007, at 12:40:13

Hello Nightowls,

I have been on Elavil for 35 years.
But I have hated the drug for 34 years.
Now I have tried Remeron for six months.

I have a problem to concentrate on my job nowadays.
Elavil gave me better sedation.
My doc has recommended Effexor in the daytime.
But I will not touch that medicine.
I am on Buspar twice daily.

I would appreciate suggestions on a Remeron combo.
Benzodiazipins are out of the question.

I have been diagnosed with a schizoid personality disorder.
And I sleep very badly without medicine.
I would like to hear alternatives to Elavil and Remeron.

In the meantime, I will try to

Keep smiling,
X-ray

I have just been prescribed Remeron for anxiety. I also take clonazepam for a condition I've had for 15 years, but I'm attempting to find a med to replace the benzo.

Incidentally, I was once diagnosed with schizoid personality disorder, though another psych did not concur saying I was functioning too well to have a personality disorder. Could you please indicate some of your symptoms so I can gauge how closely we compare?

To your question, I'm having difficulty discerning your exact concern. You mention difficulty with sleeping, and I've found Remeron to be the equivalent of being hit by a truck, especially at lower doses, rendering me defenseless to the onset of sleep. Is your problem the next day grogginess effect? From what I've read, Adderall could help.

Hello Torachan,

Elavil is a drug that has bad side effects.
So I would prefer Remeron.

I have been on Elavil and Buspar for many years.
This combo helps me to function.
I manage on Remeron and Buspar, but I don’t work as well as I used to.

I am looking for another drug as a daytime tranquilizer.

I have taken this definition from mentalhealth.com:
Schizoid Personality Disorder is a condition characterized by excessive detachment from social relationships and a restricted range of expression of emotions in interpersonal settings. This disorder is only diagnosed when these behaviors become persistent and very disabling or distressing.

I can’t argue with my doc about his diagnosis.

I have a handicap that I have to live with.
But I still try to

Keep smiling,
X-ray
