Okay I have a precribtion for Xanax that I take only occationally. I have 2 big solos tomorrow night but I can't take xanax full strenght because it seems to interfer with my breathing and finger dexterity. So I was wondering if I took the xanax before my concert enough hours where it tech has worn off, but is in it's half life, would that take the edge off during my concert without effecting me physically? So when would I take it? 8 hours before? 12? Anyone know?

Xanax takes exaclty 15 min usally to absorb into your system.
Ill give you the straight awnser. It lasts for about 2-3hours. So dont take it 8 hours before, whooa no no.
And take a low dose, to where you can feel some emotion, i took 1mg of xanax before a monologue, it blunted my memory I forgot my lines.
Do well, take like .25?

my dose is .25, but I can take 2 if I want. So it really only lasts a few hours? .25 does impare my performance, so I was thinking of using the half life to just take the edge off. So if I take it at around 4pm, then I will be in the halflife already ?

That is a very low dose maybe .125 try it first and see if it interfere. Phillipa

ok on a empty stomach it will absorb in 15 min.
Xanax's half life is only 2 hours.... for me.
Take .025mg maybe and then go on stage.... at least 30min before.
Xanax wears off quick.

Hi fellow trumpet player,
Xanax peaks at an hour-ish, and if you don't take it very much or almost never, then it's going to have a greater effect. When I almost never took it, .25 mg made me feel kinda slow. I think if you take it about 2.5 hours before, you might be ok. You'll still have some calming effect without it being too much.

i dont get it.... xanax usally takes usally 30min to get started.... but. Maybe people differ from halflives, xanax wears off straight in 2 hours for me completly.
HappyTrumpet are planning to take it before your solo? or just before your solo, like a couple hours so you wont be nervous? or during the performance....
Xanax im telling you for me....it takes 30min to take effect. And 2 hours to wear off.
Sorry i was too straight forward. I just thought that would help....

I get very nervous before performances so I usually drink a nice glass of merlot before hand =) I think that a quarter of your .25 will just help take the edge off and actually help you perform better. I always get very nervous before performing, but that's natural.
Good luck with your performance =) I am a flutist!! By reading someone elses post above me, I assume your a trumpet player?

Yes, I play the trumpet, we could have a great Babble Band with all of us musicians!
I am going to try to take the .25 before I leave for our rehearsal which is 1 1/2 hours before the concert. I want the most of the effects to be worn off by that. I want enough to take the edge off , but not too much to mess up with my breathing and finger dexterity. Which if you are a musican you know what I am talking about, it takes a lot of exactness when playing an instrument, breathing, finger control, and your mind of course! lol
I am having a massage in a few hours and that should help with some of the tension I have in my body already. Then a nice long bath with nice music, then I will eat something light, then I am wearing comfey clothes to the rehearsal and will change before we perform. I bought new high heel black boots just for the occation. Gonna kick some *ss tonight! lol

Earlier in the day I was feeling anxious so I split my .25 pill and took that , had a wonderful massage. Then I came home and took a nap then a long bath. Then 3 hours before the concert I took . 25 and I was a little sloppy during the rehearsal, but by the time of the concert, I was loose as a goose! lol My solos went very well, and I am so happy. I also did a lot of bilateral stimulation of the brain and visulization before I played. So maybe it all helped lol

Xanax has a half-life of about 8 or 9 hours. It one of the shorter lived benzo's and as far as I am concerned , the best. It saved my life.
