Success!!!!!!!!!

Posted by tecknohed on October 31, 2007, at 7:54:24

I can officialy say (touch wood) that my Klonopin + Marplan combo is KICKING A**!!!
I feel 'really' great (as opposed to 'falsely' great)!
I just quit an online college course, instead deciding to physically GO to college, thus facing other people. When I went to book the course yesterday, I ENJOYED my conversation with the Tutor - we even joked around (very unlike my usual inhibited self).

This is very Nardil-like - NOT the Marplan OR the Klonopin but BOTH TOGETHER. Maybe a bit more energy than Nardil. Quicker too, though I suspect the Klonopin helped with that (via its serotonergic effects). So for people looking for a Nardil alternative (or just a damn good head fix) HERE IS ONE: MARPLAN + KLONOPIN.

Side effects so far: HARDLY ANY. Short lived drowsiness/yawning after dosing but I can completely reverse this by actually GETTING UP AND DOING SOMETHING. A few headaches, helped by OTC painkillers. Also a few blood sugar problems - it seems to enhance insulin (I have type 1 diabetes). Lowering my insulin dose has sorted this out, which is also good for my body all round. I already knew MAOIs can increase insulin sensitivity, but Marplan has this effect MUCH more-so than Nardil. Hardly any postural hypotension (so far). I do have some short-term memory problems caused by this combo (though not as bad as Klonopin alone) & if this doesn't improve then I'll try a supplement for it (ie. Gingko).

Who knows what will happen in the future, but I'll try to 'live for the moment'!

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!

Tech, so happy for you! Did you know Marplan was discontinued in 1994 by Roche and just came out again this past year? I was doing beautifully on it from 1991-1993, and when it was discontinued, I fell hard and it took years to find anything that worked again.

I tried Marplan this past year, perhaps I didn't try long enough (or at a dose that would help) but I was so excited it was re-released that I asked my pdoc to put me on it. Unfortunately I failed the trial...now I'm on Nardil and starting to see results.

What we all should realize is that Marplan and Nardil were both reformulated and can work again, but usually at much higher doses than their original version. I'm on Nardil 60mg and when I took it in 1989 I was on 30 mg.

What dose of Marplan are you on? I was on 30 when it worked in the early 90's and my trial of Marplan this past year was along with Lamictal, which casued alot of SE's. I believe now that my trial with Marplan was probably stopped too early. Perhaps a dose of Marplan >30 might have worked better than Marplan with Lamictal.

It's so nice to hear from people when something works! It's good you're letting the world enjoy you, too.

Thankyou Stargazer!

I'm on 40mg, even though its only day 10. But that was the aim, to get to 40mg as soon as.
I live in the UK - we only have generic isocarboxazid here, 10mg pills - mine have a half mark on one side & CL 3M3 on the other. They are pink & not coated - they dissolve in the mouth. I dont know whether the formulation change applied to the UK brand or not(?). You're from the USA I take it?

Also, I'm not sure that the UK Nardil ever was reformulated. I might be wrong.

Warm regards,
teck

Thanks mate.

Real sorry it aint doing nothing yet. I guess MAOIs aren't for everyone. You didn't do too well on Nardil either did you?

But I wouldn't give up 'till you've tried the highest dose for a few weeks. Some people are just slow responders &/or need higher doses. Do you not think you could wack that dose up & 'white knuckle' it? It would be a shame not to & never know if it would have kicked in or not.

Can't your doc give you something for the insomnia? Diphenhydramine (OTC sleep remedy) can be taken safely with Marplan. Have you tried it?

Actually, since I started taking it earlier in the day I haven't had any trouble sleeping. I'm seeing my doctor on the 10th and will discuss increasing the dose. I'm only on 30 now.
