clonidine

I was recently given a script for clonidine
to help with the insomnia I have developed
Does clonidine negate the effects of the
the anitidepressants I am taking
(Parnate and desipramine)or does as some
web sites claim it enhances noradgenic
activity???

Clonidine for insomnia alone?! That's not a very good choise you know... Perhaps you have another condition that clonidine treats, like ADHD? That would make more sense.

Afaik, TCAs (desipramine) reduces the potency of clonidine.

I'm not sure of this, but it causes deplition of NE.

Clonidine reduces norepineprine release. It may be that noradrenergic hyperactivity from parnate and desipramine is causing the insomnia, in which case clinidine may help some.

If you time it right it probably will not cancel out the antidepressant effect of the two other meds you are taking.

Wouldn't it be more reasonable to trim desipramine, for example, instead of adding a 3rd medicine that fights its action?
