Off Zoloft n On Effexor ER

Posted by Cajun on October 19, 2007, at 17:24:41

Hi..I have been on zoloft for depression/anxiety for the past 12 years and..started out on 50 mgs which worked fine for a few years the was upped to 100 mgs which still works but really just not very well...I have had the doasge raised a couple of times to 200 mg and seem to get worse on higher doses, so always just dropped back down to 100 mgs..2 days ago I decided to give the effexor a try..I am starting out on 37 mg for the first week,then to 75 mg..after reading so many horror stories, My anxiety level is starting to rise..I have felt really sick most of the day with upset stomache..any positive feedback and support would be greatly appreciated..
Take care & Best wishes

Kristen

Effexor is a really good med. The downside to Psycho Babble is that people usually write about all the problems they had with a med. Effexor gets a lot of negative publicity. :)

Everyone is different and respond differently to meds. Effexor helped me for a while, but I had to stop it because I became hypomanic on it (i didn't know I was bipolar type 2).

Try to stay positive. You will have some side effects at first, but they will go away in a couple of weeks.

Keep us posted!

hugs,
Maxime

I agree with Maxime..although I couldn't take it both my daughter and my mom both have had great success on it..especially my daughter..as with any AD, give it a fair trial, unless the side effects are unbearable..they usually clear up within a week or so..my daughter didn't have any side effects starting..good luck

Hang on.Effexor is the most effective AD in the market,and I agree with all that a lot of people here talk about Effexor because a lot of people take it,but only those who have some problems with it.But I assure you a lot of people take it with minimum side effects and minimum withdrawal effects,me included.
I've tried all 6 SSRis, lots and lots of TC's MAOIs Stablon,Remeron,Trazodone,Serzone,Mianserin,Survector,Viloxazine...and many more and I believe Effexor is the last resort.It rules! even Cymbalta and Milnacipran (the so called other SNRIs) is Uncomparable to Effexor.
Best of luck!

Effexor in my opinion is a very dangerous drug that should be banned. My experience with it;
While on it I had a flatline personality not up not down just a feeling of being medicated. The real trouble began with withdrawal attempts. The first time I ended up in the hospital 5 times, 4 times by ambulance. The second and final attempt took 8 months with the help of prozac. even then the zaps, nausea, vomiting, and leg cramps were more than difficult to deal with. I would carefully consider what you are getting into, this medication is nothing to fool around with, just to see how it works. I would not recommend it to anyone, ever.
