Clonazepam - problem?

Posted by JohnSky on October 17, 2007, at 9:55:50

Three weeks ago I switched from Ativan to Clonazepam. I was on 6mg of Ativan and switched to 3mg of Clonazepam. This last week I have been feeling more depressed. I'm scared. Not sure if it is the clonazepam (I've taken it before) or the huge fight I had with my wife a week ago where she tore me apart and threatened divorce. I know people have reported depression from taking clonazepam... I've heard others say they felt depressed initially then it faded away.
Sure would like to hear from others on this. I am on Lithium and that was creating a floor to my depression until this week. The emotional pain of how my wife talked to me sure tore me down... so maybe that is what I am feeling.

Sorry about the fight I can relate to that also. But the first time I took klonopin out of the blue I felt suicidal and called the pdoc who immediatedly switched me back to xanax and it went right away. Today I take valium though. Phillipa

I made that Exact same switch a year ago (From 6mgs. of ativan, to 3 mgs of klonopin) and i prefer the klonopin). My personal opinion is that the fight with your wife is what's depressing you.

I have had no depression from clonazepam and I've been on it for about 3-4 months now. I also take zoloft but alcohol and clonazepam do not mix at all. Last time I took clonazepam a few years ago I was drinking on it and it was terrible.

JohnSky, we who have emotional problems must keep in mind that our spouses also suffer and that it is normal for them to vent once in a while. Honestly, I don't know how my wife has put up with me all of these years. Hell, if I had cancer, I'd either be dead or cured a long time ago. This mental stuff just keeps going and going and it's really hard on everyone. My wife and I always make up after these spats and that makes us feel a lot better. Love endures.

Anyone have any input on how long the depression from clonazepam could last? I thought I was feeling better but I think the med has brought me down a notch.

Klonopin is known for causing depression. Usually an increase in the anti depressant is needed to offset the depressive qualities of the Klonopin. Let us know how it goes...
