I have been taking wellbutrin for years for depression. I have added lamictal, 50 mg a day for mania and mood swings. I have been on it about two months and am extremly fatigued, exhausted, tired, sleepy, you name it. No mania or mood swings since I'm so tired. Has anyone else experienced this? Will it subside if I continue the meds? Should I stick it out?
Thnx

I was on lamictal for 2 months or so but had to discontinue because of insurance reasons. It never made me sleepy, tired etc. but it did make me hyper. Not in the sense that I was manic but just feeling good. I guess because it has antidepressant effects. I would guess that the wellbutrin is what is making you tired.
GoodLuck : )

I've been on wellbutrin for years and never made me feel like this. What time of day did you take the lamictal? It is so hard to tell what time of day is best to take these meds.

I've heard that the fatigue is only transient but since you've had this problem for two months on a low dose you might need to consider another mood stabilizer, either AC or lithium.
You also have to consider that lamictal is most efficient on bipolar depression and is less efficient on preventing mania, also you may need 200 mg to get a moodstabilizing effect since lamictal is more an antidepressant up to 100 mg./Netch

We are on the same 2 meds. Even at the 25 mg the Lamictal knocked me out. I take it at night now, but still I sleep like a rock, and I would sleep all day if I could. Makes me lethargic throughout the day as well. It did absolutely nothing for me as an AD, actually made it worse if you want to know the truth.
The wellbutrin XL helped the lethargy and took away my depression.

Sounds like the dose is too high, back it down to 25 and see what happens before d/c'ing it.
I have depression, unipolar, but was also put on Lamictal and the dose kept getting increased until I was up to 100 twice a day.
I started having memory difficulties and then took several falls before making the connection to Lamictal. Actually I went to a neurologist who made the connection.
Why do reactions to meds have to get so bad before a drug is considered the cause? I lose the ability to see cause and effect and my doc only goes by what I tell him.
Side effects from meds is the hardest thing to determine because you are willing to put up with alot to get beyond being depressed.
I have a very difficult time with knowing how far to push myself. I usually throw in the towel earlier than my pdoc wants me to but it is my choice to say enough is enough.

I took lamictal once a day in the morning. I titrated to 200mg. It worked well for me.
