TCA for SSRI/Stimulant inolerance?

Posted by saturn on October 2, 2007, at 19:27:08

Has anyone here been intolerable of SSRI's and/or stimulants (Ritalin, Dexedrine, Adderall) but successful with a TCA?

I have chest pain and tachycardia with SSRI's and stimulants...severe and even at low doses.

Thanks...Saturn

Remember that TCAs have much more intense side effects than SSRIs. Have you tried paroxetine or fluvoxamine? Iirc, they are the least stimulating SSRIs.
Alternatively, (if CNS stimulation is causing you the problem) you can try a sedative antidepressant like remeron.

Saturn, I'm doing OK on Nortriptyline 50 mg in combination with Nardil 45. The worst SE's for me are dry mouth, so I went from 75 to 50 mg. Still have dry mouth but no depression so there is a minor trade off. But well worth it. I'm also on Synthroid, which was added about the same time as Nortriptyline, so I'm on a combination of 3 meds, but the Nortrip is worth a trial to see how you react on it.
