Anone Zyprexa in morning or afternoon too?Plshelp

Posted by Jay_Bravest_Face on September 28, 2007, at 13:38:11

Just curious if anybody spaces out their Zyprexa dose in the morning/afternoon also, as well as at bedtime. Right now I am on 80mg of Prozac, 100mg Nortriptyline, 4mg of clonazepam a day, and just upped to 15mg of Zyprexa, and .5 mg Risperdal. I take 1 mg of Haldol prn. I know...I know...this sounds crazy and like I am overmedicated, but out of all of my trials (I am in Canada by the way..so no Abilify, etc.) I feel best, more 'normal' on these meds.(And I have been on TONS of meds and combos in the past 12 years.) I just wonder if cutting back the Nortriptyline and Prozac, and keep the antipsychotic dose the same, might help me shed some weight. Any takers...even a guess?
Please and thank-you.

(P.S. I am really embarrassed about my weight. It REALLY affects my self-esteem, esp. as I am single, looking for a partner. I wonder if vigorous exercise would help? I tried Dexedrine, but it didn't make me feel too good, and no change in weight on it. )

Thanks very kindly for responses. :-)
Jay

Mostly anti-psychotics cause for weight gain. of all SSRI's prozac is the only med which can actually lose weight and decrease appetite.

it seems like metformin or amantadine might be able to help w/ the weight gain.

Have you tried seroquel?

I strongly second the view that it's the anti-psychotics which are causiing the weight gain. A few years ago, I took 5 mg. of Zyprexa. I gained 50 pounds in just six months, even though I was really eating carefully and exercising. I stopped it, for that reason, and because my fasting blood sugar had gone from 70 to 110.- everything returned to normal 6 months later- the weight just melted away without my doing anything special, and my blood sugar returned to normal also. Is there a chance you could very slowly lower the dosages of the AP's? If you do it very slowly, you might feel just as well on lower amounts. I think it would help the weight.
