What do you do when you have extreme headaches

Posted by your#1fan on September 28, 2007, at 22:32:32

Well im usally always in your good mood, but now right now i just really am in pain, i took 600mg of iborphen (Advil) and still there is pain.

I cant take Imatrix, or Maltex because i took Maltex at one time and it had a one of the worst reactions with it, i had to go into the emem. room.

I think dealing with pain makes you stronger.

I get migraines about once a month or so. I find that ibuprofen etc... really doesn't do much for them.

I take a little klonopin, get in a dark, silent room and just let it work its course.

Ice packs help sometimes too.

See your doctor.
Try Excedrin.
Ask your therapist for training in relaxation techniques.
Try cold pack on forehead.
Lie down in dark and minimize sound and other stimuli.
Regulate your sleep/wake cycle.
Massage the "anatomical snuffbox", the area of padding and webbing between your thumb and index finger.
Sniff peppermint oil or massage lavender oil on your forehead. Or massage with a blend of peppermint and lavender oil diluted to 2.5% in massage or vegetable oil.
See your doctor.

My neuro suggested the ice pack on the back of the neck too. If you cool the blood going into the head it can help with the migraine pain. Alternate forhead and neck or if you have two. And then try to go sleep. If it persists, the neuro says once the brain sends out those whatever I am having memory issues again it will take something stronger usually unless you catch it in time. And aspirin if you can handle is the best in the beginning if you can handle it. And ice. For some reason, a benedryl helps me. The head of The Head Clinic at Vanderbilt University Hospital said it was ok for me to take them but it may have been like a placebo. Becareful though you might may your self have a rebound headache and they can be worse than a migraine to get rid of. For me they were a vicious cycle. RK
