Why are some people not treated with benzo's

Posted by your#1fan on September 27, 2007, at 23:49:16

My fisrt tranquizer for anxiety was clonazepam. Then Lorazepam (on for 2 years), then alprazolam.

Well let me get to the point. I have talked to multiple people who suffer with panic attacks and they are treated with zoloft! and seroquel! i mean i really feel sorry for them, they said there doctor is very strict.

I always have told my psychiatrist telling him about severe axiety problems, and im suprised i wasnt ever put on seroquel. Mainly i told him i felt like an egg was cracking over my head and i thought i was really about the EDGE of really coping with life.

I am seriously, i mean alot of people i talk to never have heard of anything of antianxiety exept Xanax (because of its reputation) They dont know what is valium, ativan, or more less klonopin. Well most of the world doesnt talk about meds like we do here on psychobabble.

Percistance i think is a good help on telling your doctor you are having bad anxiety.

I pray for everone who suffers with anxiety.

Because they are addictive for some people. I was on tranzene for 10 years and it's effects slowly snuck up on me and made me depressed. I didn't know until I went off how bad I was getting. Getting off was no walk in the park either. It destroyed REM sleep. Made me angry, etc. Klonopin made me worse, xanax made panic attacks 10 times worse after it wore off. Sure, I could have kept medicating it away but at what expense? Now, I can't tolerate ANY benzo.

If they work for you great but be careful they are not benign IMHO.

I think some doctors are unwilling to prescribe habit-forming drugs, period, out of some personal bias. Or perhaps they have a validly help opinion about them, I don't know.

Why don't you just ask your doctor?

well before i was on any benzodiazpines....i was on zoloft which made my anxiety terrible. I mean i was awful, and then put me on Wellbutrin 450mg! can you imagine that anxiety period. Finally he said ok, he started writing a scipt, and he said this is "clonzapem" .5mg take 3 times when needed daily. I did but it didnt help, so i went to 1mg, made me depressed, i had such bad reactions to it.

Ativan was ok, i mean i didnt care to really take it unless i really needed, such as like starting sweating, anxiety......and stuff.

I mean i think klonopin is the most prescribed out of all because its less addicting, and it does calm you down.

But thanks.

I dont want to ask my doctor why he prescibed me zoloft because i would be questioning his autority.

They don't want to prescribe one habbit forming drug (ie benzo) yet they like to prescribe a different habbit forming med (ie paroxetine) instead?
