All benzos are central nervous system depressants, but that doesn't mean that they cause depression. They can, in some individuals, trigger or increase depression, but that's separate from their action of depressing the central nervous system.
In other words, clear as mud, eh?
For me, benzos do tend to increase depression. I am genetically vulnerable to depression, which leaves me vulnerable to certain substances which can cause or exacerbate depression. That doesn't mean that ALL substances which CAN increase depression will do so for me. All it means is that someone who did not have the genetic vulnerability to depression would not be likely to experience any subjective depression from taking benzos. I hope that makes it a little more comprehensible -- but considering my current state, I doubt it does.
Hope that helps, at least a little.
