What's the Real Scoop On Providgil?????

Posted by Phillipa on September 22, 2007, at 22:45:35

Okay if you're anxious is it true that providgil won't add to the anxious feelings? Just makes you more alert. Can anyone describe it as if talking to a child? Thanks Phillipa

Here's a website that shows the percentage of people effected by a particular side-effect from Provigil.

http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/modafinil_ad.htm

It is unlikely it will increase anxiety, but as you can see, 5% of people taking it did have increased anxiety, so it is possible.

To put it simply...
Provigil is used as an antidepressant when people are tired, lethargic and unmotivated... it's also used for narcolepsy, (where people fall asleep suddenly).
Common side effects are nervousness, anxiety and insomnia. It's not an anti-anxiety medication.

Hi Phillipa,

I don't think I can talk to you as if you were a child, but I will try to be clear and not ramble.

At a dose of 50mg, which is 1/2 of the smallest tablet, it works very well for my inactivity and afternoon sleepiness, and it does not produce anxiety. I take it morning and afternoon.

The mild anxiety I do experience from time to time is not increased by the use of Provigil. I have less occurrences of anxiety the longer I am on Emsam. (Or at least I have attributed the lessening of it to the taking of Emsam.)

If you are anxious alot, and are sensitive to "activating" meds, which I believe you have said you are, you may still be able to get the good "awake" "fog-clearing" "focus" effects of Provigil without stimulating increased anxiety.

Would it be possible for your doctor to try you out on a sample package? The sample card contains seven 200mg half-scored tablets. If you have a tablet cutter, you can cut them in quarters easily. Then you will know what the real scoop is on Provigil as far as how it affects Phillipa.... that's what you really want to know!

My starting dose was too high, (200mg) but it still did not give me anxiety..... it gave me a racy, speedy, feeling like too much amphetamine. I talked too fast, and got way too focused in on the tiny details of everything... Googling something could take an hour.

I did not read the recent thread on Ritalin/Provigil abuse potential, but I see can how it could happen to someone who likes that sort of "high".

Hope this helps.

Janet

Brody didn't know there was a sample card. She simply said no and proceeded to give me an ADD test no sophisticated just a questions surprisingly to me they resembled anxiety. You explained it very well. And that sounds like a good idea. Let me throw this at all of you. Please. So if my main symptom has been anxiety for all those years and benzos have worked and now stress levels very high for a lot of personal reasons. I'm sleeping too much and taking less benzos any idea why? And then more stress and I need to take more benzos for sleep again. And I'm so tired I could scream yet my mind says do something, go somewhere and I'd love to and try and then almost fall asleep. Any ideas what's going on? Thanks from the bottom of my heart Phillipa

A sample pack might not be enough to answer your question if you intend on taking it long term, every day. For me it was great at first, quite a 'social' & confidence-boosting drug. Even bannished somnolence for a short while.

It didn't exactly poop-out but with continued use the 'good mood' effect went & was replaced with anxiety. I started low at 100mg/day and reached 600mg/day but not even that dose prevented the somnolence from creaping back in. But thats just typical ME.

On the other hand, taken on an 'as needed' bases it would be a very handy med to have, assuming you dont have an addictive personality of course.

Tech no my personality isn't addictive as I do not like meds and have voluntarily given up alchohol in the past and other benzos. Phillipa
