What would be a safe mood stabilizer with few side-effects? Does it even exist? Maybe a low dose anti-psychotic? I get these moments of self-destructive rage, usually inwards focused. I'll lock myself up in my bedroom, scream into a pillow, and hurt myself.

Hi, just saw your post. I agree with Phillipa that Zyprexa works well, but as for something without a lot of side effects, Zyprexa is definitely not it. I highly recommend lithium, although it too can have a lot of side effects. At the right dose and blood level, though, it can be really effective and can help prevent the moments you described. I don't have much good to say about any of the other atypical antipsychotics until you're really manic. If you want something calming, without necessarily a lot of mood stabilizing, and without many side effects, you might try Neurontin. As for something that calms you and keeps you from hurting yourself without long-term effects on your mood, I would suggest Haldol. It does wonders in calming my thoughts without slowing me down physically.
Good luck!

Care Bear that is an antipsychotic of the older generation with a lot of possible side effects . What makes you reccomend that as you said in the testorosterone thread that you do research. What kind do you do? Phillipa
