I just got this today ...

Posted by MLynn on September 19, 2007, at 1:30:32

I was diagnosed in 2004 of having depression and was prescribed Zoloft which worked wonders for me for the last couple of years but starting about 3 weeks to a month ago I have been having racing thoughts, I cant stand to be around my boyfriend (which whom I love very much and have been with 5 1/2 yrs) Im tired all the time, I get irritated easily amongst other things. So I contacted the nurse practitioner that gives me my Zoloft scripts. She first raised my Zoloft to 150 mg instead of the 100 I was taking, but that didnt help me at all so I called her again and she asked me to come in so I did today and she had me take a test. When I was finished, she read the results and asked me if anyone had ever told me that I might be bipolar. And of course I amswered no. And she said she thinks that I might be and she prescribed me with Lamictal along with 100 mg Zoloft and she says this should help me greatly. Anyone out there have any kind of advice for me or an experience similar to this one? Thanks so much in advance! :)

I just want to feel better!!!! :(

Zoloft is an excellent antidepressant if you can forget your sex drive.

Adding Lamictal (I hope you are starting on either 25 or 50mg) to Zoloft would definitely work if you are Bipolar. But you will have to wait to get the Lamictal dose adjusted. Just wait and see how it goes.

Best wishes

A similar combo is working for my sister. Be patient and good luck!

Your Nurse Practitioner was right in suspecting an underlying bipolar disorder. Be glad she was educated enough to recognize this right away. l
Lamictal is a wonderful mood stabilizer, with minimal side effects. Be very patient and hang in there as you titrate your dosage. It gave me my life back.

Can't lose either way as it also boosts an ad for unipolar as I was given but had to stop it I did notice some anger while on 50mg. Wonder why? Phillipa
