Hi! My pdoc has just put me on a combination of Effexor and trazodone for depression and anxiety. Any thoughts or experiences about that?
Thanks,
Ric

I've been on that combo, and it worked well for a long time. Switched to Cymbalta and still take half a tab of Trazadone to sleep, and it works well for me.

I've been on the Effexor + trazodone combo. The thing about trazodone is, though, that you don't get antidepressant effects unless you take a huge dose, usually 400mg or more. The only thing lower doses of trazodone are really good for is sleep. I found Effexor to be more effective for my anxiety than my depression. I never went higher than 150mg, and it could be that you need more than that to get the norepinephrine effect that helps with depression.

Carebear I'm glad you mentioned the dosage and effects. I take trazadone for sleep also. I'm noticing now that since I only take it sometimes for sleep and not daily as i used to, I tend to get a bit depressed. Have you or anyone ever experienced that?

Hi Rina,
I actually never noticed an antidepressant effect from Trazodone alone, so I can't say that I noticed a mood drop when I skipped a night or two of Trazodone. I hope it doesn't happen to you, either!
