Wow Labs Better Than Normal Finally!!!!!!

Posted by Phillipa on August 29, 2007, at 23:38:24

Wow can't believe my TSH came back at .88, free T4 is l.72 and the ANA I paid for is about normal first time in ll years at l:80. I'm healing. No more labs for three months and synthroid only l00mcg. Been on higher so long. This normal ANA means my autoimmune is healing too. My sister's did the same. Great news for once. Plus the PHD said no slight depression PTSD is my dx. That was my first dx back in l974 when went on valium. No wonder I just quit xanax and lunesta no withdrawal and am sleeping with the valium and very low dose luvox. Will cut down on valium soon too. Why take something you don't need. Phillipa

That's great... so happy for you.

To what to you attribute your healing? Meds? Diet? Supplements? Your body doing it's work? All of the above?

Anyway... good for you!

Janet

Janet I guess the adjustments of the thyroid med by the endo. The ANA I looked at this am and is still the lowest elevation normal I guess on their lab values is l:40.But it's still good for me. No idea why it's better the ANA is speckled and varies over time. Thanks for asking Phillipa. I do take vitamins, excercise, and eat healthy except for the truffles chocolate.

Thats terrific news!!! I hope this means that you will be able to feel well enough to get out of the house and enjoy life again. Travel, and take a long vacation. A cruise would be a great thing to do. My mom and I are going to the carribean this winter.

Hi Phillipa!
I'm happy to hear that you got good news with your lab results! I'm not familiar with the other conditions you talked about, but I was curious about the adjustments made of your Synthroid.

I was first put on 50 mcg of Synthroid a little over two years ago. For 6+ months following, I had TSH measured frequently, and the level was always at the high end of normal (between 4.0 and 5.0, I think). Then, for some months, I was manic, and the next TSH showed that I was actually in a hyperthyroid state. My PCP actually speculated that I was using my thyroid medication for weight loss purposes, which was totally untrue. I think the difference may have been the way I was taking the Synthroid. Before, I took the Synthroid sometime after getting up, most often with food. During my manic period, I had no appetite and was super-active, so I took the Synthroid first thing in the morning, then worked out and went about my day without food. I know food affects absorption, but do you think it does to that extent? I haven't had my thyroid tested in about a year now, but I feel like my metabolism has slowed down. I'm wondering whether I should go back to waiting about an hour after taking Synthroid before eating?

Anyway, congratulations on your good news!

CB

Carebear I used to take my synthroid with food too. But I eat yougurt in the morning and it's a form of calcium and it binds to the synthroid so you don't absorb as much. I decided to see an endo and the first thing he did was tell me to take it when I wake during the early morning hours on an empty stomach. I do now and it's taken a year and I'm on a lower dose than the ll years I took it with food. Also get the test to see if it's hasimotos thyroiditis as it changes up and down over time. Last summer I became hyperthyroid and hence the endo. And endos like the TSH to be between l-2. Phillipa

Standard protocol for thyroid meds is 1st thing in the morning (or whenever you get up) on an empty stomach, it's scary that negligent doctors and pharmacists apparently aren't bothering to tell patients this. Cecilia

Cecelia scarey thing is that for ll years is when I asked the regular docs they just said oh as long as the TSH test is normal take it whenever and with whatever you want. I used to take my calcium magnesium in the am too with it and the docs knew. I questioned the info that comes from the pharmacy and the docs said what I said above so I don't blame the pharmacists. Just glad that an endo straightened things out. Phillipa

Yay Phillipa!!

What I want to know is have you been feeling better? Your good labs reflect accurately how well you feel??

Thanks for the info-- I did think that Synthroid should be taken on an empty stomach, but no one ever emphasized it, and sometimes, I'm hungry right when I wake up and don't feel like waiting. It's interesting you should mention Hashimoto's. My mom actually has it, and she was also treated for thyroid cancer two years ago. So I don't know whether my hypothyroidism was caused by genetic factors or whether it was lithium-induced, which is also possible. It's probably a combination of the two. Thanks!

Care Bear very true. You can get an antibody thyroid test from either your doc internist or an endocrinologist the former I'd suggest as with a family history you may yourself be at high risk? Phillipa

Kaye Baby what I know is that I'm on a lot less benzos and going places that used to give me panic attacks. Not perfect but better I'd say. Phillipa
