Well it's been hard to find any information on my experience. I'm Googling my questions many different ways and coming up with very limited information.
I've been off meds for a year and a half. I was on Effexor XR 150MG for a good 6 - 8 year run.
Anyways, I went to my old doc and told him of my problems and he prescribed this BRAND NEW DRUG to me. CVS and Wallgreens didn't even have it in stock because it literally had just come out and they had to order it for me.
My Experience:
I took the pill (one 200MG pill of Seroquel XR) When I went to bed and that was very very early in the morning at around 5 A.M. I work at a club on the weekends until the wee hours of the morning. I had trouble sleeping and never went into a deep sleep. After not getting a sound sleep I finally just got up for good around 12:30 P.M. in the afternoon. I immediately realized this wasn't going to be a good day ahead of me and I also had to work at 7:00 P.M. that night.
The Effects:
My balance was terrible for one. It felt like I was drunk and my coordinaton was severly hindered. I felt like I was stumbling forward and backward as I walked up the steps. My mind was in slow motion and it was apparent that a terrible reaction to the medication was taking place as I fumbled to just keep my composure. I first saw my mother and tried engaging in a conversation and quickly realized that I was having an impossible time stringing words together and my slurring was uncontrollable as I tried to muster up concentration to complete my sentences. As I tried to think it was like everything was in slow motion in my mind. I just couldn't speed my mental process up no matter how hard I concentrated. All motor skills including my fingers were slowed down to a snails pace. Just trying to play my piano or type was a slow mission with many mistakes. My tongue and mouth were also completely dry and drinking water was only a temporary fix. I thought that if I had some food in my belly that it would helt to get the chemicals out of my system faster. Well this was just wishful thinking because that didn't help. I knew at that point that I would have to ride out the storm within until this 24 hour poison left my system completely. I tried to call out of work (With A Flu Excuse) but they couldn't find coverage for me (I'm the DJ in this club and I need to Emcee all Night Long and Talk Constantly) so it was obvious that I would have to show up and perform my duties (With Expectations of how I always perform.) I immediate thought that taking a nap would maybe help. I slept until around 5:30 P.M. and awoke to only feeling the slightest bit better. I went to work and it was a nightmare experience. I pulled it off........barely. I just told people that I had a 24 hour flu and had taken DayQuil. I used the Allergy Migraine Headache and I also said I had a Sinus Infection. After what seemed like an eternity, I finally finished up work at around 2:45 A.M. and was only just starting to feel slighty better around 12:30 A.M. or so. I went home, went to bed, woke up, and felt great. The crap was out of my system and I felt relieved to say the very least.
Well there it is: My Terrible Clash with Seroquel XR.
I obviously will never take another pill of this medication or any other Anti-pychotic drugs. I couldn't imagine having to put up with that for another minute. I am not willing to invest any more time on a something that whacks me out that much. There is no telling that the side effects would have went away and I wasn't going to wait and see it they ever did. My brain chemicals are obviously oppositely slated from the one's that this drug is supposed to act upon.
The Bottom line is that this drug induced Psychosis as opposed to reducing Psychosis.
Questions:
Has Anybody Ever Had This Kind Of A Reaction To This Medication?
What Caused These Reactions?
Thanks,Tommy.............

Eh?
I don't know what your doctor was thinking. There is not one indicated use for this drug (standard monograph) that has a patient starting in at 200 mg/day. You just got too much of the drug, too fast, IMHO. I'm sorry for what you went through. A more reasonable starting dose might be 25 or even 50 mg.
The monograph for the XR formulation differs substantially from that for the IR version, but I can't see any supporting rationale for that......starting dose recommendation at 300 mg. Yikes!

Well you probably have a good point there about the amount of drug I was taking right off the bat. I really don't know what this guy was thinking. I have seen this Dr. on and off since my early days of Effexor XR back in 1999. He was def off the mark by way way too much and I won't be seeing him again. To add insult to injury, he precribed me a prescription of Provigil and he was suppossed to talk with my Insurance so they could grant approval for coverage. The Pharmacy called him to give him the Insurance Company's 1-800 number and the next day I also called him after finding out that he hadn't made the call yet and he assured me he would make the call immediately. It was Friday around 4:30 P.M. and he was scheduled to go on vacation the following week. Needless to say, he didn't make the call. For $395.00 for 40 measely minutes of his time I think it's a major injustice to his Dr. title to not take patients needs serious and to merely put off something that is not only important to the issue at hand but is also something he prescribed. Take the Money and run is the way I see it............so done with high priced docs. I'll go back to the freebie's that come within my insurance plan. The more experiences I gather I realize that from the high priced one's down to the cheapest priced ones there's no difference between these docs for the most part. They just appear more knowledgeable when their price tag is higher. Enough said..........I'm annoyed.

My problems are lack of concentration, short attention span, lack of motivation, obsessive thoughts around the same theme over and over again. Most of these problems pertain to socail anxiety issues. I'm a very outgoing guy but I'm insecure beyond belief and hide it well. Well there you go........

Wow. That is intense. I have the worst hangover from one half of a 25mg pill! Yeah, thats righ, I think twice before taking even the lowest dose of the IR formulation (25mg) on account of its propensity to give me restless sleep, and a horrably crappy feeling the next day.
I don't know what the doctor was thinking for a number of reasons.
1) The dose was way too high. Fault of AstraZenica? Who knows
2) This drug is NOT approved for the problems you complained of. Most of the problems you said you had, namely:
- lack of concentration,
- short attention span,
- lack of motivation,
- obsessive thoughts around the same theme over and over again.- socail anxiety issues.
Seroquel would make most of these problems WORSE, for the average person. Like other antipsychotics, seroquel can *cause* problems with cognition and attention, as well as lack of motivation. Seroquel is not the treatment of choice for social anxiety disorder. Most experts on social anxiety believe there is a dopamine defiiciancy rather than excessive amounts (ie like in schizophrenia).
There are a lot of doctors jumping on the bandwagon of seroquel for every disoder, but it is unfounded.
I would imagine that Astra Zenica is angry about lossing the sole rights to seroquel, and is therefore trying to get patients hooked on unnecesarily high doses of seroquel XR.
