seing weird things that may not be there

Posted by little t on August 22, 2007, at 20:30:01

Has anyone gotten so obsessed with an issue after taking Ritalin for a while that it may actually not be real or as it seems compared to being off it for a while?

Sometimes increased obsessivness or even psyhcotic type thinking can be induced by ritalin.

It might be good to take a break for long enough to be able to weight the pros and cons of the med.

There are some other options which may not cause the same side effects.

I have done so, but I was wondering if this compulsive behavior is something that I am not alone on. I'm not a schizoid, but I seriously wondered while having my obsession with dirt if others have seen bugs, etc. that others would just not see at all. I make this a big deal and start to feel like my beautiful house with a man-made lake should be condemned. When I take a weak long break from Ritalin, it is just bogus. I'm not feeling the bug, dirt thing AT ALL!! Did not know that such a drug could make you feel schizzophrenic, when I know that I'm not. I'm on a constant acid trip or something...Anyone have this happen to them? I just need to hear from others so I can confirm that I am not alone. I have bi-polar/ADHD, but I don't feel like I am delusional unless the Ritalin has such a side effect.

Is it possible you're entering a manic phase and have you ever experienced a psychotic episode? Or could you have OCD? Possible to have more than one illness. Phillipa

Increased obsessivness is a documented side effect of ritalin. It can worsen OCD in people with OCD, and somtimes created obsessive type symptoms in people with no prior history.

Link never knew that so do you stop the med or take another to counteract it? Phillipa

the med is not making it up
it is causing an exaggeration of what's already there

i can't believe you continue to take a med that is triggering such discomfort

go back to your doctor
