Im stuck on Prozac and Strattera...there's no end.

Posted by rjlockhart on August 12, 2007, at 22:08:04

This is going to be a long post.

I have been taking Prozac for a long time. And it helps with depression.

The problem im having is i cant tell my mother when i go need to go to the doctor because she has already told me, after this is it with ADHD medications.

Look im telling you this drug stimulates me but it causes me to go into the feeling of derealization almost with prozac.

But i still am attentive, i just, i may just lash out and do something this drug.

I have to take it, because it helps me concentrate but then this psychosis comes. I feel so incredibly derealized, i woke up yesterday and LITTERLY LOST MY WHOLE MEMORY, I forgot where i was, what was going on, i looked around and didnt even recognize where i was, WHO I WAS my OWN IDENITY. CAN YOU IMMAGINE NOT knowing who you where for 3 min. This is a nightmare.

I feel im in a never ending paralell reality of choas.

I dont know what to, this is such a crisis. I hate this medication.

Im litterly going insane, but i have to stay insane.

I hate life.

Have you spoken to your doctor about Prozac and Strattera being contraindicated?

You said in another post that your pdoc was licensed in 1955? I find that difficult to believe, since that would make him almost 80 years old. If he is, in fact, nearly 80 years old, perhaps getting a second opinion would be in your best interests?

Based on your own reports, I will certainly NOT recommend that you go back on stimulants. So, what are your options? Strattera is probably the best of them, kiddo -- and it sounds to me as though you're so focused on how horrible everything is, especially compared to stimulants, that you're not really giving it a chance. What's more, if the problem really is the interaction between Strattera and Prozac, then you need to get that one sorted out before you give up.

So, I know you have insurance through your mother. I know you live with your mother. I know your mother won't tolerate stimulants in her house. That's your reality right now -- learning to make the best of it until you are in a position to support yourself makes a lot of sense to me. Can you see another pdoc for a consult? Making it clear to your mother right from the start that you're not going to ask for stimulants? And making it clear to everyone concerned that you don't want your mother present during your appointments.

Also, I think you'd do very well to get into therapy. I know it's been said before, but I'll keep saying it.

Lastly -- as I see it, you've got a number of options here. You can address some of your symptoms through behavioral interventions. Learning to control them through behavioral interventions would probably do you more good than any drug on the market.

Good luck.

I'd also suggest a clinic with a sliding scale since you are working. Or is it possible to file for medicaid? I know someone who posts here on medicaid and it pays her pdoc's appointments, therapist and meds is that remotely an option? Love Phillipa

I agree with everything Racer wrote. Just wanted to add one thing ... ask your doctor try Desipramine. It's an anti-depressant and can help ADD.

Racer, my pdoc is 83 years old. :)
