TIANEPTINE - can it cause more anxiety?

Posted by Jimmyboy on August 2, 2007, at 17:47:36

Hi, I have not posted in awhile, I have bipolar depression, basically just exhausted, weak, no concentration, for many years, nothing has really helped. I started taking 900 Lithium and Tianeptine 3x day in Jan. The combo helped with the energy and cloudy headedness , but I have been having paralyzing panic attacks that I have never really had before. I know Tianeptine is supposed to help with anxiety, but has it made anyone's anxiety WORSE?

Thanks,

JB

Some people feel *very* strange on it, so maybe yes.

I felt a sense of nervous irritation for a bit.

How are you getting this drug if it isn't available here? Are you in Europe?

Is it expensive? I don't know if my doctor would ever consider ordering from overseas. Does insurance cover any of it?

Thanks.

How long have you been using it? After 6 mounths It made me like a crashed car to a wall. Yes It made my anxiety worse after 6 mounths. I can tel this feeling like It consumed all my energy. But firt 2-mounths were very good for my anxiety .It made my head clearer. I think It isn't for long term use for me. But If It works It is a good drug.

Interesting.

I worry that the short term relief is compensated for by a worsening of my condition.

I tried adding 200mg SAMe, which seems useful, and 400mg which was not, in the morning first thing.

Yeah, I found it very helpful for the first several months also. It really helped me out of a bad long lasting depression. But the longer I took it, the more I became nervous and agitated, I think it may be the tianeptine, b/c the last few days since I have stopped taking it , I have been much more calm and settled. Hopefully that will last

I had the same response. I think I read one of the possible side effects was "inner tension" which made me laugh a little because that was exactly it for me.

The second time I started taking it I took it in conjunction with a benzo for the first week or so then tappered the benzo and kept taking the Stablon.

For me that provided much better results then I expected. Once the benzo had cleared I could take the Stablon and I did seem to be getting a anxiolytic effect without the previously experience inner tension.

To the original poster I wonder how long you've been taking tianeptine? It's possible that the uncomfortable effects will fade as you adjust.

If you're determined to try it I and don't feel like you can deal with the anxiety I would recommend talking to your doctor about a short term prescription for a decent benzo. Maybe it will work.

In fact stablon had started to make me feel bad 2 mounths ago. I thought that its cause is my life stressors. I thought about withdrawal symptoms and I continued to use it. But in the middle of my holiday it made me very edgy and bad. Still I am thinking of how I can withdraw. I started to take it less and less and I don't like this period. SSRI's don't work for me. I am at the begining of very stresful and critical part of my life( I managed some of them with the help of God and stablon). I am thinking of not using it for a while and start again. I haven't any other option. I know because I tried alot.
