EMSAM /how it works?

Posted by KayeBaby on August 1, 2007, at 11:26:38

I have noticed that I start feeling blah at around 22 to 24 hrs after I put on my EMSAM patch.

When I apply a new one I get a noticable boost within an hour.

I have been on EMSAM since mid April. Shouldn't the MAO effects be in place at this point and not be so dependent on each dose?

Does this mean that the 6mg patch I am on is not strong enough to get that MAO action going and that the benefits I experience are just the immediate effects of the med-maybe the metabolites that are said to be amphetamines?

Anyone have any knowlege of how this works?
I don't get it.

Thanks!
Kaye

I don't get it either. If you use EMSAM and then it's not strong enough do you go to an MAOI and if it poops out what happens next?I mean do all the chemicals in your brain change and keep constantly needing something stronger? Love Phillipa

My guess would be that you're merely experiencing the metabolite effects. I personally think the 6mg patch is worthless, but I found the 12mg patch to be incredible and there was no roller coaster as long as I changed it every 24 hours. The delivery was so smooth that I'm spoiled to the extent that I'll likely never be content with the ups and downs of pills again.

Hey d0pamine!

Thanks for that info. I think you are right about that.

How long before you noticed a difference when you went up. Any additional side effects?

Do you watch your diet or have you had any kind of negative interactions?

I apprectiate you sharing your info with me.
Kaye

In 4 weeks I began to see some improvement. In 5 weeks I felt tons better and in 6 I was a new person. Nothing prior ever worked for me like EMSAM. The only side effect I experienced was a reduced need for sleep or insomnia depending on how you want to look at it, but potassium citrate completely eliminated this. Also I think EMSAM may have decreased my libido just a little but I'm generally though the roof in that department anyway so this wasn't really a big problem. For the 1.5 years I took it, this was a wonder drug for me.

Hi d0pamine...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I recall you discontinued EMSAM not too long ago. How long has it been and what do you notice now that you're off it? Have you replaced it with anything else? If things head south, will you resume EMSAM or go another route? Hope its all going well...

Y

You are correct I did stop the emsam and that is a process that I've found to be VERY similar to stopping amphetamines. I could easily sleep 20 hours / day, but I'm trying to cut myself off at 12 most days and use a little provigil(400mg/day) to get me by. I have started taking Parnate and am just waiting to see how that goes. If it does not go well then I will without a doubt start slapping patches back on as nothing else has yet ever been nearly so effective for me.

My friend is taking the 6mg now with no side effects. I think it has helped him so far. But he says he doesn't think so. He says he could be wearing a piece of tape. Wonder if he needs the stronger, but we are concerned with the side effects.

6mg==tape the 9 is a little better but the 12 rocks. The only side effect I had was insomnia and I rather enjoyed that.

did the insomnia increase with the higher dosages? I have read that potassium citrate also helps with insomnia. Have you tried that and if so what dosages?
