Hi guys 'n gurls,
My psy wants me to try Strattera.
However, I'm a bit weary about this, cause almost every AD in the past caused me to gain tons of weight and murdered my libido.
I'd like to hear from experienced users.
Please state wether you're male or female.

Female.
I took Strattera for some months, and I think it was mostly OK. The only side effect I can remember was change in my menstrual cycle -- which became normal, for the first time since I was about 14. Otherwise, it was maybe stimulating, but the doctor who prescribed it was a great one for changing three things at once, so I don't know if it was the Strattera or one of the other meds he started me off on that day...
Overall, I did OK on it. Since there was no warning about the menstrual changes, that was a bit of a shock. I wondered if something was wrong with me, and didn't connect it to the drug until another doctor I mentioned it to said, "Oh, yeah -- I've heard of that with Strattera..." Oh, woulda been nice to know that...
Good luck with it.

Strattera was a nightmare for me. I had crying spells, hot flushes, and nausea. I must admit I started to notice the benefits such as increased motivation and concentration after gradually increasing the dose over 6 weeks, but the side-effects were too much.

Hi, I'm female. Guess I don't qualify as an "experienced" user but... I was only on it for maybe a week because it put me in a stupefying, immobile, confused depression (have never had that naturally or from a drug). Strangely though I did have appetite, "had to" eat constantly, carb and sugar cravings.
I read at crazymeds that in that guy's opinion many many more people would end up liking and being helped by this drug if they started way lower on it than is typically done, and went up slower. I *think* that's a common opinion. I was started at what's considered average or maybe a little higher (can't remember offhand what that was... 40 MG seems to ring a bell but not sure).
My pdoc said let's just forget that one. He said he never heard of my reaction before, but sometimes I think that often isn't very indicative of anything. And he trained under someone fairly well-known but is pretty young.
Anyway I think many have liked Strattera tho, and I do think my reaction may be unusual. Hope I haven't been discouraging. Best wishes!
This is the end of the thread.
