IMO, codeine is much more trouble than it is worth.
I wouldn't take it for anything.
The side effects/central effect ratio is awful.
If I had severe pain I might consider a decent narcotic.
Having said that, I took codeine for years, but I'm a very slow learner.

I've got some of those pills. They don't even get rid of a headache. It's my guess that the amount of codeine is too small and you can't increase the dose as that would mean taking too much of the dangerous drug in this mix viz paracetomol

Hello Rovers
Back pain can be just as difficult to treat as emotional pain.
A nice doctor I know, when looking at the MRI of my back said 'NOTHING works for nerve root pain', and then wrote a script for methadone. For a start, I wouldn't take paracetemol (liver).
When I was in the UK, kaolin and morph seemed strangely ineffective (kaolin left in the bottle).
There's Collis Brown, of course. The French manage to create a liveable society, one of the characteristics of which is half strength paregoric in 45ml bottles.
(Yay for the anglosphere.)
