Taking Effexor with food

Posted by BGB on July 3, 2007, at 16:05:47

I recently started Effexor XR (again, after a 3-year hiatus with Celexa) and the pharmacist specifically mentioned to me that I should take it with food, and put a big "take with food" label on the bottle.

Is it really that important to take Effexor XR with food? I take mine (375mg) in the morning, right before work, and then I usually eat breakfast at my desk, about an hour later (stinkin' rotten Atlanta traffic). Is this going to affect the efficacy of the Effexor? I have not had any stomach upset at all, if that is the reason why they tell you to take it with food.

Thank you in advance for your help and support! I love Psycho-Babble!!!! =)

I took it with and without food, it didn't make a difference to me either. Some other meds have but efexor didn't.

It would be to reduce gastrointestinal side effects of Effexor or to help the XR effect of effexor. If you have enough food in your stomach, effexor XR will work slowly to last for longer time.
Plus, it will help you to cope with the gastrointestinal disturbances effexor may cause.

Cheers... Always keep Effexor with you as a missing dose will cause withdrawal symptoms.
