How long does Klonopin stay in your system?

Posted by silmarilone on December 19, 2003, at 20:05:39

How long does klonopin stay in your system? If I took say 3mg, how many days until a test would not show benzodiazepines?

thanks

The half life of Klonopin is 30-40 hours according to the following chart.

I've read 15 hours... I take it only at night, and it usually lasts ~24 hours. I think it all depends on your metabolism and how your body works.

Hi,
If you are wondering about this because of a pre-employment drug test, I have an experience:

I listed all of the meds that I was on (including klonopin) and if they found it in my urine, they made no issue of it because I had listed it and given a reason for taking it.
Just a thought...

Hi,

If the half life of Klonopin is 30-40 hours, does that mean that if you take say a dose at night, after some days repeating the intake the drug accumulates?.

Thanks

It depends on how long you've been taking the klonopin/benzo. If you've been taking for a year or so, it can be detected up to a month or more after your last dose (especially for longer-acting benzos like klonopin). If only taking it for short-time, then detection time after last dose can be significantly less.

Kon gave pretty much the only helpful answer here. Half-life has NOTHING to do with how long the drug actually "stays" in your system--all half-life tells you is how long before the drug's effects stop working. I had been taking Klonopin for anxiety for a year before deciding to become pregnant. I needed to be off the Klonopin for 1 month before it would be fully out of my system in order for the baby not to be affected.

The half-life is 18-50 hours, which means the amount decreases by half every 18-50 hours.

If Klonopin has a half life of 24 hours in your system and you take 3 mg you will have 1.5 mg after one day, 0.75 mg after two days, 0.375 mg after three days etc. Whether it will be detectable in the blood stream also depends on your weight and the testing method. After 10 helf lives it would probably be pretty much undetectable under most circumstances.

PS

If you are thinking of going cold turkey, DO NOT DO IT! With Klonopin it might take 2-5 days before you notice withdrawal symptoms, but once they hit they can be very intense and can last anywhere from two weeks to two years. You can also have siezures.

I am not sure about the half life post I do know Klonopin does not build up in your system like Xanax does that is why they give them to people that take any kind of Morphine because Xanax and Morphine mixed together can kill you I have known 2 friends that died this way. Also about the COLD TURKEY this all depends on the person. I personnally took 2 mg pins atleast 3 times aday for about a year until I got arrested about 4 months ago (for other reasons beside Klonopins) and I have not taken any since and have never had any side affects
