I have pretty strong social anxiety which has been helped a lot by paxil... before it used to be tremendous and I passed up many girls in highschool because of it.
These days I sometimes dont even want to talk on the phone at all because of it. And I dont have much to talk about even if I do.
On ativan and non generic paxil I was better though. I used to be more talkative.
So I am going to go back on ativan and drop this xanax and see how it goes.BUT what else is there? Please give me some options. I have atypical depression with lack of motivation/drive/interests but that has been very hard to treat. ritalin worked wonders but only as a short term solution.
So I welcome any other suggestions. ANYTHING you can think of. I need to get the heck on with my life and I am sick and tired of staying inside.HELP ME

How much paxil are you taking ?
Paxil is pretty strong. Somtimes SSRI doses too high and you loose serotonin/dopamine ballance.
SSRI's can sometimes take the edge off social anxiety at the expense of desire for social interaction.
You might try lowering the paxil and adding a bit of something else.
P.S. Zoloft (much) better for social anxiety than paxil was for me.

any time i have changed it to 8mg or 12mg my mood gets quite worse so it seems 10mg is the way to go.
but i need to add something to it and i can never stop paxil or my depression comes back severe and overwhelming

See this study. Apparently (in mice) only lower doses of SSRI's facilitated social interaction. High doses actually decreased it.

HAve you tried a different SSRI? Like I mentioned in the other post, zoloft helped my depression, but was much better for social interest than other SSRI's.
I actually made a few friends on zoloft!

Nardil, an MAOI, is reputed to be one of the best antidepressants for social anxiety.

Stimulants usually make people more talkative, as you've found out. I think you're wise to view them as a short-term solution though. It's much the same story with other drugs that might make you feel more talkative and comfortable in social situations. Small amounts of codeine make me feel more sociable and keep better company, but they're not without problems of their own. Nardil would probably be one of the best drugs for your problems but you'd have to come off Paxil for a week or so to do that safely.

Hi,
Klonopin may be worth a try, if you can tolerate benzos. I took it for a while with an SSRI and it had an effect on social anxiety.

If there were a drug like beer effect I would use it certainly. It's the best thing to be social.
