I'm trying propranolol for my tremors

Posted by Deneb on June 9, 2007, at 23:51:21

So, my pdoc and I think my tremors aren't caused by my meds now because I don't always have a tremor. If it were my meds causing them, wouldn't I have tremors all the time?

I've noticed that I get really bad tremors when I'm distraught, so maybe my tremors result from emotional distress (sometimes, but not always).

Anyways, I'm going to try taking 40 mg propranolol as needed for when my tremors get really bad or when I'm trembling with fear.

I had some tremors tonight. They weren't severe, but I wanted to see if my new med worked so I took one. I haven't noticed any more tremors, but I dunno if that's b/c they went away by themselves or b/c of the med.

I dunno if it's placebo effect, but I feel just a bit lightheaded and nauseous. I think next time I'll only take 20 mg.

Anyone else use propranolol for tremors or anxiety? How does it work for you?

hey deneb,
that's also a blood pressure med...did your doctor say anything about watching your BP while on the med?
I know they use it for psychiatric issues too, so I am curious

My pdoc told me to not do strenuous exercise after taking it.

She didn't really tell me much. I do know it's a blood pressure med though. I know sometimes when I'm upset my BP gets pretty high, like 150/?.

I took propranalol for anxiety for a while. It was like a miracle for me -- I never knew how bad my anxiety was until the first dose of propranalol! It was just wonderful.

It didn't turn out to be a long term answer for me, but I was taking it every day, two or three times a day. I think that taking it PRN might have been ideal. In fact, I may discuss it with my pdoc, because it was the most effective drug I've taken for my anxiety.

Good luck with it, Deneb. I hope it works out for you. (And I think I was taking 10mg, so 40 sounds a bit high... Maybe you'll do well on 20mg. I think trying that would be a good choice.) Let us know, 'K?

It's short term too for giving a speech or something like that. Don't think it's a good ideas to take it a lot. Love Phillipa

Yeah, I'm stuck by just how calm I feel after taking it. I guess normally I'm a bit keyed up or on edge. I worry about my BP spikes now, I just read that anxiety induced hypertension does damage. I'm kind of glad I have some propranolol now, even though I only have 9 pills. I'm not sure why my pdoc gives me so little, maybe she's afraid I will OD on them? I dunno, but I think you can take a lot before it harms you.

Thanks for letting me know about the dosage and sharing your experience with it.

I take propranolol when I have to give a presentation or when there is a situation where I have to teach others. Anything where I feel like a great deal of spot light will be put on me. It is really a miracle. It has saved my job. Its really amazing to have no bodily reactions to my cognitive anxiety.

I hope that does the trick. :) (nm) » Deneb
