Cymbalta experiences

Posted by gritslad on June 3, 2007, at 11:33:26

Lexapro waned, so the doctor gave me Cymbalta. I've been wanting to try something that affected other brain chemicals besides serontonin and wanted something to give me energy. I'm dysthymic. I'd like to hear about effects of cymbalta--especially effects on sex drive/orgasm and weight.

What dose are you on? I took it twice first time to 60mg no side effects for me or weight gain. Second time I took it couldn't tolerate 30mg but I didn't trust the doc so that may have been why. I think you have to try it to see as we are affected differently. Good luck Love Phillipa

My experience with Cymbalta was a worsening of my depression. At 30 mg, my energy plummeted and at 60 mg, I took to bed and could not get up to do more than the basics and even those with much difficulty. I was surprised since I had not had that much de-energizing ever with an AD, it was very strange so my trial only lasted for about 2 or 3 weeks, tops. Sorry I cannot give a more positive report for you, but you could have a very different response so you have to give it a try to see for yourself. Good luck...Starzazer

I took it for about a year and a half, and it was OK. It wasn't entirely effective for me, and I was taking a number of other drugs at the same time, so I'm not exactly a poster child for its performance. It did help an awful lot, though, even if it didn't do the whole job for me. (And I'm hard to medicate, so I'm probably not the best one to extrapolate from.) I believe I took 60mg for most of that time.

What I will say is that it was VERY friendly for me. Very few and very mild side effects. It was probably the most tolerable serotinergic antidepressant I've ever taken. I don't believe there were any sexual side effects whatsoever, and I seem to recall I had an interest in sex.

Good luck with it.

I found that 40mg of Cymbalta did wonders for my depression, but it had sexual side effects. Eventually, after lots of trial and error, I got to a combo of 150mg of Wellbutrin and 20 mg of Cymbalta. The sexual side effects are barely noticeable now and the two drugs together seem to work very well.

If it wasn't for the side effects from Cymbalta, I'd probably be on that drug alone.

I was on 200mg Zoloft and 300mg Wellbutrin for several years, but still had the brain fog and no energy. My pdoc suggested Cymbalta in place of the Zoloft. But, I was a little hesitant as I read that it was similar to Effexor which I had a horrible experience getting off of. I decided that a possible boost in energy and motivation outweighed any negatives. I'm up to 60mg of Cymbalta and feel a little improvement. No real side-effects that I can tell. I think I hope that this pill or that pill will be the "one" that does it for me. I feel a little better and no worse than when taking the Zoloft.

Well I've been difficult to treat for the last six years but I found Cymbalta caused me extreme anxiety which I tolerated for about a month.

Strange really as Effexor (which is supposed to be similar) caused me very little anxiety.

Hi,
I made the Zoloft to Cymbalta switch a few years ago, but it didn't do well for me. The hoped-for activating effect registered on me as anxiety and irritibility. It also raised my blood pressure. This was unnacceptable so I went back to Zoloft. Still looking...

Hope this helps,

Ray

I've only been on the stuff for about a week, but so far I'm unimpressed. No hoped for energizing effect, and it may be what is impeding my sleep. Which AD do ya'll find most energizing?
