Re-Starting Lamictal bc of bad withdrawel

Posted by CK1 on June 3, 2007, at 22:05:09

Hi All,

I was on 25mg of Lamictal for one year and decided to quit two months ago. The withdrawl has been HORRENDOUS with no end in sight.

I've had the following symptoms:
1) dizziness
2) nausea - severe
3) lightheadedness
4) exhaustion
5) derealization
6) anger/frustration

After 53 days off (basically two months), I cannot suffer like this anymore so I am forced to re-start Lamictal at the lowest dose I can take that gets rid of these symptoms. I will then attempt a MUCH SLOWER TAPER. It may take 2-3 months to taper but I cannot handle this crap.

BTW, I have been on both Effexor and Paxil and the withdrawel with those wasn't bad at all for me and Lamictal has been. It's normally the other way around.

Keep in mind, everyone is different in the way they react to meds. Lamictal still changes your brain chemistry so, even though it's supposed to not have a bad withdrawel effect, you can still get it!!! BELIEVE ME, this nausea and dizziness is horrendous!

Best of luck!
-CK

CKl that bad so sorry. Yes it's supposed to be the other way around. Sounds like a good plan to me. Have you taken a dose yet? Love Phillipa

I'm sorry you are having such a difficult time with it. I'm on 300mg and it wasn't doing the trick. I was actually cycling faster on it. I'm on lithium now and want to taper down on lamictal because I can't afford it and it wasn't helping anyways but now I'm scared to try. My pdoc probably won't want me to anyway. I wish we had a place in Canada that would help me with the cost of meds. Good luck on getting off the med.

Crissi
