Anyone have personal experiences to share? I am replacing Lamictal with Trileptal. I was gaining weight like crazy on Lamictal even though it's supposed to be weight neutral. It also made me tired if I took it in the AM and gave me insomnia if I took it in the PM. Go figure. For the first week Trileptal is only at night and no side effects that I can tell this morning. How sedating is it though? Next week I'm supposed to increase to 300mg in the AM and 300mg in the PM.

I know my dose was lower but not sedating at all. So glad it worked. Love Phillipa

Trileptal is tegretol with an extra oxygen ion. I had no side effects from it nor withdrawal from lamictal but didn't take it long. Maybe that's why? Love Phillipa

I am supposed to start an am dose and pm dose in a few days. How sedating is it? Lamictal was very sedating for me...wondering if this is going to be just as bad?

Well as you know it's different for anyone. It was mildly sedating for a first but after 2 weeks it wasn't. I was also clumsy on my feet, but that also went away. Now there are no side effects.
Lamictal isn't usually sedating, so who knows how you react trileptal. But it's worth a shot and you will only know once you try it. I hope it works for you.

Take 300mg in the pm now. Going to add 300mg in the am. I'm coming off Lamictal because it made me eat like a horse and that is supposed to be a weight neutral med so who knows. No bad side effects from the Trileptal so far so that's always a plus.

>I take 600mg before bed and 300 in the morning. The bedtime dose is somewhat sedating, but the morning dose isn't sedating at all. I've taken 600mg in the morning before and didn't notice anything. I haven't experienced any real side effects, except that prolonged exposure to sunlight bothers me now and that may be the culprit.

I'm not sure, Phillipa. The only thing it seems to do for me is partially offset the nervousness I get from most antidepressants. I believe the usual dose as a mood stabilizer is 900-1200 daily, but I'm not certain of that.

You mean it helps anxiety too? Love Phillipa

I don't believe it helps anxiety per se. However, all classes of antidepressants except MAOIs give me hyper-anxiety at therapeutic doses or lower. I'm pretty sure that there is a correlation between taking Trileptal and tolerating 45mg of Remeron and 10mg of Lexapro. Of course, I can't take more than 15-22.5mg of Remeron or I'll eat my house, but that's another problem.
