Hepatic encephalitis and meds

Posted by Squiggles on May 24, 2007, at 17:02:47

Has anyone or someone they know here developed this after taking Serzone? What symptoms did you have and how did the doctor test you for them? If so, what treatment did you get and what was the recovery like? Also, did you find that the meds you were taking became far more powerful than before?

Thanks

I've seen someone die from/with encephelopathy, but know nothing about Serzone.

He was lucid and delusional.

Lucid and delusional-- almost paradoxical.
Well, Serzone is blamed for some liver failures,
but then there is Tylenol and about 800 other
drugs that can cause liver damage. I'm not sure;
just curious. I hope drs. are on the look-out for the possibility when they prescribe it.

Hence one of the reasons I decided not to take the med the black box warning and I'm glad I mad that decision. Love Phillipa

Hi Squiggles,

If you have this or somebody else has this try to make clear that the reason for the encephalitis is clear. There are other things (eg. infections and more) that can cause encephalitis and if the right reason is not treated well it can do irreversible damage or death.

warm regards

Thank you for your reply. I do not have good
reason to suspect this in term of medical symptoms that a professional could discriminate. Just from reading medical books, i see that there has been an increase in sleeping at odd times, and a lot more, loss of weight in a funny way--muscles show but the fat is gone, and near the Serzone treatment (which was withdrawn after a few months), grey, slate-like jaundice; also depression.

I just hope the dr. looks out for these-- could be liver, could be something else. A lowered drug dose seems to be working (on all the drugs) which is mysterious in itself.

Tx

Squiggles
